[smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]19My workshop but sadly not my Mini. It's 96 Cooper Anniversary model' Badged & registered 1961-1996 in original almond green. More pics to follow when painted & chromework refitted. Only 200 of these were made so it's a bit special and sadly not for sale.
It really is a baby & i do'nt want to give it back!!! :'( 8-)

Pity its not yours Guy.  Looks like loads of space in your shop, though!

ps - glad you got the piccy thing sorted out.  Not much test page space left, after you made a visit or 12!!!   ;D

being a postman, and a lover of omegas, i need my omega, but i'd love to own a mini, and it would be my pride and joy!!

i love the newer ones, around 1997 onward with the slightly flared arches...

No....the Mini is THE symbol of why we dont have a car industry

When it was launched it was years ahead of its time, 10 years later the competition were catching up, 20 years later they were on a par, 30 years later they had gone so far in front of the mini design it was frightening and it took another 40 years for the dam thing to finaly get the bullet.

By the late 70's it was crap compared to the competition but, if it had been developed it would probably still be a class leader....

Nothing ever changed on it......it wasn't developed.

Bare shell, de seam, inc. sills, rear beam axle, v. slight neg camber nylon subframe mounts, extra tie rod mounts (cut & re welded allegro ones hold it together fine)
A series( pre plus) 1st overbore =1293cc (within 1300 comp class) full race scatter cam, double sprung valves (no bounce) extra comp or oil( I forget which) ringed pistons & lower the rear only by half inch ish, adj. gas spax, colway soft compounds.
Tighten harness & upset everyone at Goodwood. Bitch to drive in town, granted.
BL did'nt develop them but some of us did!!! 8-)
P.S. Straight cut box, no stereo!

I was driving one of them a couple of hours ago as it happens. Not the best example I'm sure. It was lacking sat nav. It needed that to tell you what direction to shove the gear lever in to get the next gear ::)

The competition never caught up (or tried) to with the landrover and it did get some development like engines, suspension etc.

The mini didn't, the A series is a crap engine and still was right upto its final long overdue demise, the gearbox is horrible (and whines in all gears!) plus you simply cant stop selector shafts from leaking, the drive shafts break, there un-comfortable, the driving position is awful, the space inside is awful.....hence why the sales dropped off a cliff in the 80's....

A truely awful example of british engineering......great when released and then left to rot in the corner.....

It amazed me that they messed about for so long trying to get injection working on the A-series engine - especially the port injection setup which was always going to be a total kludge on an engine with siamese inlet ports. It should have got the bullet as soon as carbs weren't an option, and probably long before.

I guess there was no engine in the parts bin that would drop straight in and no budget to mod anything (but plenty of budget to fart around with the engine management).

:) Yeah but first in & out the corner. You're right on many points, whilst they've got issues they've got character which many better engineered cars sadly lack. I hope when i post the finished pics you like it just a teeny bit just to look at!!!
       P.S I still owe you a tenner!???

Very impressive paint job, can I ask what kind of paint did you use ?. Thats the first 'U' reg car I've seen, I thought they skipped 'U' to avoid confusion with 'V' .

Nice looking job.

Having built, owned, maintained and mostly rallied countless examples of every single type of Mini (first lot not the modern stuff) I am in agreement that they were truly dreadfull cars. Even the Cooper S's were "toilet engineering".

One rally I changed the radiator twice during the event at the roadside.

One Bank Holiday I had the engine and gearbox out and stripped down TWICE to replace a poxy gearbox bearing.

GRR, At least now I have my ultra reliable(?), easy to work(?) on Omega in my older age!

:)ICI solvent based paint with 2 pack laquer. Car is on cat c, written off on Isle of man, shipped over as salvage, owner did panel rebuild then bought it here for spraying. It needs re re registering so i do'nt know if it'll get an age related 96 plate or a q reg.
     It's a nieghbour so i'll see it again. 8-)
