Title: Hi all....  Happy new year....
Post by: MaxV6 on 05 January 2007, 17:59:26
Hi all, just discovered the new forum.... and registered.... thus here i be....

  first;
happy new year, may it be prosperous and breakdown free for all of you...
hope Xmas brought you all the toys and bits of Omega you wanted.....

Second....
if i might be so bold, just because I'm curious.... why the seeming split from the Vaux owners net forum previously being used by , what seems like most members here???...
forgive me if that's a political gaffe and i shouldn't have asked...  i was just curious....

Third.
now to things motor related....
This new year
My Much abused 3.0 Elite V6 estate......  sadly, chose the new year weekend to have a rear wheel bearing begin to fail, and then to add injury, on my way to the garage from the office,  to drop it off for the wheel bearing job...   the EGR valve blew.

Not a happy camper....

So , what other jobs should I get the garage to do to make sure that the new EGR lasts more than a day??

(note this is not a vauxhall dealer...  but the nearest service place to my house....   conveniently right opposite ;)   but they seem nice chaps, very helpful, and apparently, honest......  (no, seriously, i mean it.... ) they have the auto-data system for checking assorted things in a manual like fashion... and a reasonable relationship with Gurney's, one of our local ish vauxhall dealers...
(when they ordered the wheel bearing, Gurney's mentioned some special tool for lining them up, that isn't mentioned by Haynes or Auto data, ......  but offered to lend them the tool for free.....  and would send it with the parts !  )

but obviously they are not Omega experts like some hereabouts are.....

So , to avoid further heartache and expense....  i thought it best to ask you lot.... and  then go and kick in my accountants door to see how I'll pay for it....

I'm no longer really able to do this sort of stuff myself , i have a Back&Neck problem that rules it out....  more or less permanently...  so I must grit my teeth and pay through the nose somewhere... so it might as well be locally, if you see what i mean...

likewise....    Cambelt and water pump.....   it's due doing now....   where's bets to get kits and stuff??

thanks in advance for any help and advice...

Max

Welcome to the site Max :)

Depending on whats wrong with EGR, you may be better just blanking it off.

Wheel bearing, sorry, never done one.  I hear rears can be troublesome to change, but do not know reason...

Techie Qs are best posted in Omega Help for best exposure, hence more answers :)

V X O N is old news, don't really want to drag up again, but many Omega owners did not like the direction that site was taking, or the treatment many Omega owners were getting there, so we set up this place.

I'm glad you found us :y

Cheers....   I'll cut and paste into a new post in the appropriate place if that's okay... (some forums can get snotty about cross posting in multiple areas)

no worries about VXon , I was merely curious......  as an occasional interested reader, but rare participant...   i wondered what politics I'd completely failed to see....    fair enough... I know how it goes....  and I can assure you, forums in all shapes and sizes go through that sort of thing  regularly.... even if unintentionally....

for my sins,  i "moderate"   on a couple of audio technology/music forums......  man , you have not seen a proper flounce out and throw  toys from the pram till you've seen it Muso style !

:D

Best regards

Max

No probs, cut and paste the relevant bits ;)

We aim to welcome those not so used to PCs/Internet/forums etc, so anyone doing wrong is more likely to get quiet PM rather than a good grilling here - are demographics are going to include a large number of non computer savvy peeps.

Thats one of my pet hates of some forums, esp IT technical ones - everyone is expected to be a techie, making it difficult for non savvy users to get started...

I guess music and hifi can get very passionate, and people will hold strong views ;)

We have a couple of AVForums regulars here, which forums do you help out with?

...  Errr... whispers Quietly.... mostly at

http://www.soundonsound.com/forums

it's largely about production and studio/performance/related technologies and music in the sense of playing & recording the instruments rather than as a consumer...

and yes, it can be scary for the newbie....  there's a lot of people fond of referring them to the search function... as we've been running for a LONG time.....   but it's not intentionally scary.....
