Title: Senator Vs Omega
Post by: devonian on 23 January 2007, 23:08:09
Hi people, just found this forum and thought I would join.

Have not yet bought an Omega, but am considering it (have to sell 4 litre Jag 1st!!).
Just a question though to any guys that may have had both a Senator and Omega, though not necessarily at the same time...

I used to own a late Senator 3.0 24v manual car...fantastic performance, but found the seats a little uncomfortable and the feel when cornering a bit lacking...So the question is how does the Omega compare? Is the ride handling better? Is comfort better? and also which model is best...
Would probably try for a 3litre Elite if I can get one...

Cheers

Dave

Hello & welcome  :)
Ask your question in the appropriate section & you'll get a much better response  ;)
Plenty of people on here have had/still have both...

Howdoo Dave, welcome to the forum.

You realise you have just jumped into a bit of a lions den as regards the Omega/Senator thing?   ;D

Check out the chat section, theres a few threads running there that may well answer your queries!

3 ltr Elite has loads of toys, while the MV6 is a little stiffer, less roll, and is debatably a little better in handling.  All depends on what you want, either a sports luxobarge or a luxo luxobarge....   ;)

Welcome to the forum :y

Having owned both, yes the Omega is the superior car.

Welcome to the site :)

As said, check the general chat - since user Tunnie bought his 24v Senny, every other post is about them ;D

Omega is a much more balanced drive (thanks to the lack of an over weight straight six sat to far forward in the engine bay!).

Seats are also more supportive and teh ride is quieter (even more so on facelift models late 1999 onwards)

Welcome Dave. :)

I agree with the above, but the Senator is still a car with a certain "something".

If you want supportive seats and better handling, go for an MV6 (manual).
Quite different to the Elite, but certainly more appealing if you want to "drive" the car. ;)

Hi Dave and welcome.  Imho, the Omega being a much newer car will have suffered less from the deaded tin worm, and will be much easier to find a good one.

Humm this is tough.... I own a facelift Omega and a Senator.

Unfortunately I do not have a big 3.0 V6 Omega just the 2.2, so comparing the them is unfair as the Senator as a HUGE power advantage.

It all depends on your budget? If you got £500 quid or similar, I'd prob get a Senator. But if you got more like £1,000 to spend, then i'd find a post mini facelift (98 onwards Omega)

The straight 6 in the Senator is brilliant, you must know from ownership. Its fast and produces a lot of torque.... quicker than the retail 3.2 V6 Elite...

However I have to disagree on a few posts above:

The Senator to me is MORE supportive and comfortable than my Omega! The seats are just so much softer ... on a 70 mile run to Uni i felt more refreshed from driving the Senator than Omega...

Of course the Senator is getting on, there is no doubt the Omega is a better car in terms of safety handling (on the limit).. looks better, rust is not a real isssue....

However as Laidback commented, there is "something" about them .....

Tunnie is in no position to provide feedback as he has a 2.2..... 8-)

Bigger engine gives a more relaxed drive.....

I can honestly say that after driving 2700 miles around europe and then getting into a 3.0V6 estate (within 1 hour!)....the Omega was worlds apart...quieter, better handling, more comfortable........and so i should be, the Senator is an 80's car and the aged design shows when compared to a 90's car....

If I had 500 quid I would buy an Omega...if I had 100 quid I might buy a Senator coz they are worth little more unless you want a classic car and not an every day run about.

I think if I had a 3.2 V6 Omega, i would be less impressed with the Senator....

Hello & Welcome

I used to have a Carlton - main differences are that the Omegas are heavier than their predecessors
