Hello all
I've migrated from VXON following the sale of a Calibra and being given an Omega. I had a 2.016v a few years ago and always regretted getting rid of it.
Now I've been given an R reg 2.5V6 with an autobox issue that I'm very happy with.
picked up an AR35 last week to replace the current box, now I just need to pluck up the courage to change it over - damn aren't those things heavy!

You need our very own admin, man, Laidback.
Seemingly he can balance an AR35 on his chest. ;)

Hi Tunnie
I haven't got underneath it to have a goor route around on the fault yet. the guy who gave it to me had lost heart in it, he claims he'd had a transmission light come up on the dash, cleaned up the connector on the side of the box (apparently the weatherproof shield had disappeared long before) and that cured it. It came back a couple of months later, he took it to a grage, the garage claimed to have rebuilt the box and its never been right since, The guy took the garage to small claims court etc but was told in the interim not to drive it so it sat still for a few months.
It still drives in the manual modes, although when it gets warm it tends to take a few seconds to engage the gears, the revs rise and then it seems to slip in, accompanied with a faily strong smell of ATF.
I've been reading up on this and have many things to check, the selector switch being one of them, fluid level etc, but seeing as I managed to get an AR35, I figured that considering the other one had been played with I might just as well be better off fitting a gearbox that I know is in good condition. I could change the fluid and filter and everything else and still find that the gearbox is on its way out, so I thoguht it best to have a backup plan.
Not sure on the selector switch as it does flicker ever so slightly when you move the selector from Park to Reverse and occasionally in other gears - however I'm convinced that its something a little more terminal.
Any thoughts because I'm a total newbie to all of this?
