Title: THE DREADED LEAKY CAM COVERS..V6

Hi everyone....just got onto my 3 omega and despite all the usual problems with the previous 2(oil coolers/heater matrixes/steering arms etc)still love these cars to bits..seem to have a problem which cannot resolve and wonder if anybody else has needed to resort to this.....I have now replaced both rocker gaskets and "o" rings with genuine ??vauxhall bought gaskets toghether with the black sealant,but inspite of doing this job several times before and the result has been fine I now cannot seem to stop either side from weeping oil..it has been suggested that the rocker covers should be replaced as they could be distorted..could this be correct as they are only plastic and whilst I have been very carefull not to over tighten bolts they still are leaking...vauxhall have now quoted £70=00 +vat for each cover..but you do get the gasket set with each..typical vauxhall though you have to buy the "o"rings again.....any help or pointers would be great...nothing is trapped and breathers are all cleaned...andrew

Thank you guys for your kind acknowledgment of my humble existance sat at my computer...after owning 2 cdx omegas over the past 6 years and covering nearly 250,000 miles in them I have now bought number 3....1998 2.5 elite..which compared to the cdx is just that bit nicer.Found her in auto trader..1 owner ..genuine??? 68,000 miles all recorded with full s/h and she drives really nicely..except those damn rocker covers...all previous cars have shown no signs of leaks from there,so bit puzzled why this young girl is being a bit of a pain..will be getting them replaced agian next week by my mechanic(f.o.c.) as he is a bit embarrised that his last repair didn,t work and as i dirive so many miles he doesn,t want to loose my years of good custom ..i suspect..anyway will see if i can source some new /good rocker covers and he can replace the originals when he does work next week...have tried to contact jim as he was selling a pair but no reply as yet..will call autovaux as advised by a kind member and see how much they want..anyway must press on..good to speak with you all and will keep you informed of my progress with "mobile kebab shop "..andrew
