Title: Rocker cover gaskets
Post by: jack2uk on 21 April 2007, 12:54:35
Hi all,  I have 2.5 V6, 1998, 150 k, engine has been running great, had rocker cover gaskets replaced 3 months ago, all seemed well but last few weeks engine started running slugish, lacking power etc... i checked on spark plugs and found the plug wells were full off oil, i'm going to take back to garage where i had work done, now is it their fault that the gaskets were not fitted correctly or maybe they never cleaned oil from plug wells when they fitted gaskets, or could thier be another reason? any thoughts or advice on this matter would be appreciated. Thank you.

Hi Mate welcome to the Forum, you would be best putting your post into the Help section get lots of response in there...
Were the gaskets genuine Vauxhall ones? apparently none genuine ones are not very good, gasket sealer is supposed to be used on the corners only. I may be wrong but i suppose they could have left the oil as we had to get a shringe and tube on the end to get my oil out off the spark plug wells.
I think you rightly said though take your car back to the garage and see what they say, if the garage is Vauxhall think they guarantee there work anyway.
Sure some of the guys will shed some light on it for ya :y

Hi Jack and welcome aboard. :y

Could be the rocker covers are warped so replacing only the gaskets won't cure the problem - happened to mine about a year ago so had to replace covers and gaskets.

Welcome to the site - with your rocker covers, whether they leak again or not depends on:

- Genuine Gaskets and O-Rings used?
- Sealant Applied in the correct places and correct dose?
- Rocker Covers themselves not being warped?
- Keeping the breather system clear (The reason they fail in the first place)
