Welcome to the forum :y Our resident member Tunnie has this car in the saloon version and I'm sure will be able to point you in the right direction..

I'm averaging about 21MPG about town in this one, but I'm taking it really easy til I get the cambelt done....
-
thanks.think i need more than 21mpg though.have to drive to lincolnshire periodically and that would be a lot of money for a 540 mile round trip.

Welcome to the forum :y
Nothing wrong with the 4 pots, quite a number of us have them and are quite satisfied.

Got about 32MPG on a return trip from Norwich, they're not too bad when up to speed....
-
depends what your looking for.
4 pots (2.2 / 2.0) are a little underpowered for their size, with just me in it (being only 10 stone) it goes fine! :D
Put some passengers in and it bogs down a bit :(
4pots are easier to work on, reliable engines, very duarable, can be negalected and still run fine.
V6's are smoother, and a 2.5/2.6 will be about the same on fuel as the 2.2.
I hope to trade up to a 2.6 manual at some point :y

thanks guys.think i might go and test drive it tonight, dealer said he'd give me a grand for my pug 406 diesel and £300 off for a scratch on the tailgate.got it up for £4995.seems a bit expensive to me,what's your opinion on the price?.
-
sorry,car is 2000 on a y.

What year and mileage?

2000 on a y
Way, way overpriced, I would reckon £2500 tops.
-
And it would have to be mint, which it's not if it's got a scratch on the boot.

Hi and welcome to the forum spurno :y
I too run a 2.2i auto estate. With running around town i am averaging 25 mpg. This was after a clean up of the breathers and throttle body. On a long trip, Scotland to Devon, the car averages 39 mpg.
There is a softeware update to the auto box and i am told when this has been carried out the mpg and performance will be better. The car does not have the get up and go of my previous Carlton 2.6 CDXi auto but it works fine. The performance or mpg does not seem to suffer with a full load. With the sport button pressed the get up and go certainly makes a differance but ther mpg suffers.
A real must, in my mind, is the fitting of a cruise control. I fitted one to mine and it has helped with the mpg on a long run and it is not so tiring. In the end it depends upon how you drive. :y

thanks, just cancelled my test drive.can you suggest where to find a good one?.have looked on quite a few sites but most of them do not allow you to input vehicle type.eg saloon /estate.i need an estate for the dogs.
-
Hi Spurno and welcome. That 2.2 was over priced. Try looking for a 2.5 Manual estate. Rare i know, but i've got one and knocking around the counrty lanes etc. where i live i get 26 MPG, with about 36 on the motorway. On average about 1mpg better than the 2.0 auto estate i had before, and loads more oomph :y
-
thanks,i'll keep looking.definately want one.

For a 2001 Y Reg 2.2 CD ?? - No way far to overpriced.
I paid £2,700 for my 2000 X Plate 2.2 CD Saloon 2 years ago....

Hi Spurno and welcome to the forum. :y
Good luck with the search and go for one of the V6 variants - great engines as long as you get a good'n.
-
Got mine for £1,600. Get haggling. Pity you have a trade in. Price too over the top even for a dealer. :o

Hi Spurno. I have a 2.2 and it has more power than the 2.0 and different gear ratio's. I use it occassionally to pull a caravan and have no trouble.Insurance is cheaper, running costs are cheaper and as mentioned before it's easy to work on.
My dealer had an 02 2.2 CD with 57k auto saloon for sale at £5995 - and he was a robbing Main Dealer. It didn't sell at that and 6m later was traded out so £5k for a Y - no.
2.6 would be nice but Omega's are big thirsty beasts that like to drink petrol and there isn't much between them 2.2/2.6. I suggest you take it out anyway and leave your details with a sensible offer :y

Agreed, it depends what kind of driving you do. Mostly motorways and the V6 will come out the same as the 2.2.
Take this as an example: - Motorway run from home to Birmingham Airport, exact same run in both cars and similar traffic and similar speeds.
Omega 2.2 Manual: Average was 35.6
Senator 3.0 24v Auto: Average was 31.4
I think a 2.6 would be the best combination :y
-
£2,500 is a good price for 2.2CD estate of good mileage
my 2.0 saloon cost me £2,000 in its original state and i have the receipt from the mug who paid £4,000 last May for it!
-
Hi Spurno and welcome to the forum :)
I suppose it depends what you are going to use the estate for but I would go for 2.5/2.6 as a happy medium :y
-
thanks for your thoughts everyone.just got to find one now.

Hi Spurno & welcome, keep looking mate & one will turn up sooner or later. If you need advice on anything Omega no finer place than here :y
-
hi and welcome :)
the estate posted by ClarCE is probably worth a look - might even be a CDX which is slightly higher spec - it's got the wheels off a CDX but they could have been swapped ... it's also a manual box which will be better round town, I think the 4-pots are better round town to start with.
As for searching, if you register on auto trader (free) you can then log in and filter your searches ... :y

have registered on autotrader and i'm looking national.saw a nice one but it had gone.i think it's going to be a long slog but i intend to get one. will certainly let you all know.
