I don't think they can endorse your UK license with points. There is talk of a mechanism whereby an authority in another EU state can ask the DVLA for your details and pursue you for the fine but I'm not sure if this has already come into effect or if it's just at the stage of being talked about.

Passed a really sneeky little camera in France on a very short tripod hidden behind a sign. Just not cricket at all  >:(. Was following a nutter who was doing a ton+ at the time and, well, I didn't want to get lost now, did I ::)

Then I remembered by number plate was across the top of my nosecone so no chance of it seeing it.

Yep, they can be pretty draconian if you get stopped. Worth taking it easy in France these days.

Mate of mine got frogmarched to a cash point to extract and pay his fine.

Got stopped and breathalysed over there once. DD limit is 50ug/100ml rather than 70 over here so that'ts really worth watching. They were pleasant enough. Had I not succeeded at suppressing my laughter at their ridiculous uniforms I might have been in trouble though.  ;D

I usually stick around the limits in France, though have done some 130mph runs when the roads were empty, and I needed to make up time...

My daughter was in Australia earlier this year an got a speeding fine through the post a few weeks later. It was considered to suggest that it was a cloaned plate, then she told me that the hired camper van had a unique paint job DONE UP LIKE A BL**DY  NINJA TURTLE :o ;D.I contacted the dvla an they said that points could not be applied to her licence

Just to keep you in good mood, apart from the France-UK issue, there is always a chance that the actual thing did not work / had no film / the picture was not clear etc.

Just came back from Italy today, the toll roads there are very good (and deserted), officially the speed limit is 130Km/h but you can safely go 150-160Km/h, the road is very good in my almost ten years of driving on this particular stretch I have never seen a Police car....

that was my first hope, once i had regained my eyesight......thing flashed very violently at me (not that sort of flashing either  ::)) everyone in the car complained that they had spots in their eyes for a while.

You mean it flashed in front of you, not on your back...?

If so then it flashed a motorist driving in the opposite direction....?  :o

Not familiar with this type of gatso then, but I would think it is b****y unsafe to flash drivers in the eye...

going that fast, and a camera in front flashing at you suggests to me it might not have been a speed camera, could have just been some complete idiot leaving a camera on a tripod taking photos of cars... via remote?

No such luck.  Its a French speed camera.......

Not quite as sneaky as some of the Swiss ones though......

Spain used to be relatively free of fixed speed cameras but I understand now has about 100 with a half of those in Andalucia. They are listed on a website. Locations are all where there are often terrible fatalities.

Worth bearing in mind if you come here on holiday and have a hire car.

The Europeans tend to generally flash you from the front, >:( >:(

Now down to the License the eu law has not come into power as of yet so the only thing the french can do is to :
first of all get your personal info from dvlc   :(

then send you the fine to your home adress  :(

then wait to see if you are silly enough to pay  :o :o

the bad news is if they ever catch you in france then they will (believe me ) make you pay dearly  >:(

but only Euros, they have no other power than to take your money  :P

they also put you on the so called black list for the next 5 years, so be carefull if you ever go through

 the country again  ;)

This has happened to me a while back, i thought break you not paying that after i got caught on the Paris ring

2 years later the checked me at the border and voialla Please come with us Monsieur and give us your money

all in all with admonition payed about 185 smackeroonies  :'( :'(

my own fault for forgetting

A few years ago i had just delivered in Kassel and was ambling along sort of down so country lanes when this German police office jumped out and flagged me to stop..Oh dear i thought hiding my currency down my socks the notes that is,,I had just passed some speed thing that looked more like a 3 legged bollard.. :-/ They were very polite as i have allways found them to be but they wanted money.. :-/

This was before Euro"s so when they said £30 equivelent i showed them what i had..Francs, Gilders etc which came to approx £7.. They radioed back to whoever and accepted, smilling all the time.. I had the cheek to ask them for a Franc back for a coffee as i had a long journey, guess what they give it mo ticked me off and off i went..Glad to get back on the Autobahn out of the way.. :y

The Germans are absolutely MONEY MAD >:( >:(

they hide behind glass containers, in the woods at the sides of roads, behind cars all over the place so

that they can grab your hard earned Money off of you >:( >:(

they have also now started using road side bollards as in sweden, and then, not in areas where

speeding is dangerous, NO!!!                 on wide open roads where

 nothing can happen to you.

Sometimes i thing that the roads are porpously made so wide and so straight as to make it easier for

the Adolphs German police to catch you speeding makes me sick
