Post by: TheBoy on 11 August 2007, 18:50:39
Omegatoy and I have made good progress is prepping the tractor for engine removal, now planned for next Sat.

Anyone prepared to lend hand then, it would be much appreciated ;)

Mrs. Kevin Wood is talking about having her mother and grandmother over to have a jam making session on Saturday (they've been out picking fruit)  ::)

I suspect this calls for me to be out. If this pans out a trip to Brackley might fit in perfectly.

I'll let you know.

Any help is appreciated. If we can get people concentrating on say left/right/front/under car I reckon we can crack this is a few hours.  Need to get engine from donor in Wardington near Banbury in the morning, get engine transported to Brackley, then fit in afternoon.

What times can you make?

Any time is good for me no ties this end  ;) well besides the new kitten  ::) not sure about the getting under ;D it could work out very nicely for me if James is popping over I have brought a couple of bits from him so if he brings them down I can pick them up at the same time, also been speaking to tunnie and I may be able to help him out in his quest for lighting  :y

I can be there for 11 ish, need to go to Banbury dealer for the oil cooler kit, then to MK for the head gasket kit.

I am tempted to bring the Elite by as well, and I will tinker away doing that, while pitching in for the engine change. When "gadget hands are needed"

There won't be time I'm afraid - besides, you need to do cooler at yours, leaving sealant a day or 2 to go off...

You'll need to know what size as well, unless you buy a set.

V6? its 19mm. Didnt think MM stocked them. I bought a set of pipe flare sockets (crowsfoots) off ebay. If you go for spanners, make sure that the business end is set at an angle to the shaft like a normal open-ended, some are mounted square-on and you need to be able to flip the spanner over for the next 1/2 flat of rotation.....if you see what I mean.
Would lend you mine but SOMEONE has borrowed them and then gone on hols.

The ones that Markie recommends look good, that goes up to 19mm:

basically said it would make sense for you to get to Wardington as early as poss to release loom down pipes etc, so its almost ready to come out, and i will get there as soon as i can , so we dont waste to much time on the donor car and get as much time as poss to get yours up and running!! :y

Did not realise they are open Sundays.... hummm hoping to do the HG on Sunday if James is free, if he is not, be the following weekend.

In that case i just need to go to Banbury, I'd like to get started on the Elite soon. If James is not free I will do the oil cooler on Sunday.

Saturday i will tinker with little things on the Elite (door strap repair & leather food) while helping you out with your engine change.

11ish (may still be at Wardington getting engine then)
What time are you expecting to leave yours & expecting to get back & what's the "plan of attack" ?
Been chatting to SWMBO & can make any time really (she's swapped shifts again  ::))......
Need to get in touch with engine seller, but seems like 9:30 leave Brackley for Wardington (about 10 miles) to remove engine from donor car. This will take 2hrs I imagine. Then get engine back to Brackley and fit.

Bo Bo - 10:00

Any more?

9:30  :o :o :o - Its a sodding Saturday!  >:(

I have asked for a 20L drum of Anti-freeze to be put aside, collecting that & oil cooler parts from the stealer, first thing.

Might be handy, had a look at the straps Omegatoy left behind, couldn't quite work it out. In my defence, I was tired (and half drunk ::)).

I have a couple of things to attend to first thing tomorrow morning and a bit of a drive so I won't make it before you leave to get the engine. I'll pop up to help with the installation, though. If someone can PM me a mobile number that would be good in case you aren't back when I do arrive.

Cheers,

kevin

OK, the plan seems to be coming together, which is somewhat worrying seeing as this car is jinxed....  :-/

Plan:
Tunnie, Bo Bo, LFF64, TD meet at mine 9:30. We leave at 9:30 to meet seller in Brackley at 9:45, and follow him to his dads farm.  We make a start on disconnecting all the junk from the engine ready for removal. Omegatoy will meet us there around 11ish.  Hope to have engine out by 12 - 1ish.  Back to mine to take out my engine (mostly everything disconnected) and put this one in.

I have got out the gas bbq, have some burgers and bangers, along with rolls etc, so if someone finds they don't have a task, they can fire that up.  Plenty of cans of soft drinks in.
