I have a 2.5 2001 Omega auto , it's a lovely car , and is in nice condition with a 120,000 on the clock but the only problem is that she has started you use more water , I have to top it up by about a pint a month.
I've had a sniff at the water header tank , fine , no water showing on the dipstick , but I do get mayo on the oil filler cap on short runs , on longer runs everything is clean and clear.
If it's the heads that are blown , then it's not worth the repair , and she will be scrapped , which would be a shame as she drives so well , but £2,500 for new heads would not be thought of as a viable option.
Anyone got any ideas ? Jeep Jockey.

Hello & welcome :y
This post would get more visability in General help....
As a guess, it could be you Heater Bypass Valve (HBV)
about £30 to replace, little awkward if you have large hands.
looks like a small plastic 'starship enterprise' at the back of the drivers side of the engine
Mayo situtaion sounds normal.

Oh, and when you top the water up, you are using correct Antifreeze mix, not just water? Else you could be building up to bigger problems

:) Hiya Jeep_Jockey.

:)Welcome aboard JJ. Do'nt worry about the mayo on short runs, i cacked myself when i first saw it. You can pull the oil filler off by hand & pop it back on after cleaning. MDTM showed me @ this years Lakesmeet, saves time with your finger in a sticky hole....oo er!! [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]

Dear All , thankyou for your kind offers of advice on my Omega's water problems , but how does one go about spoting where the water is coming from ? I've left her running and watched her from above and below , but not a drop have I spotted !
Perhaps it might be a leaking pump , or the water is comming out of a hose under pressure , while the car is driving , and there is no damp in the front footwells , so no joy there.
May I say how amazed I was to find such a good a site for Omega's , a much unsung car , I think they are one of the best of the big Vauxhalls , and elegant to look at , as well as very comfortable and bloody fast.
So any more info or idea's as to why she's wetting herself , please let me know. What a nice bunch of guys you are ! Regards , Jeep Jockey.

As said, post up in the relevant forum. no doubt someone will assist.....
(ps - try switching the heating to the opposite to whatever its on and look again for leaks..... If all drippy, would bet its the HBV at fault....)
