evening.
im in the market for a big diesel motor. new family and a 80mile/day commute means it needs to have a big boot to swallow all baby parifanalia(sp?) and be comfy and fairly economical too. Ive been a VW boy for a while and have rund 15year old passats for the last 3 years and have been great but im frying out for some creature comforts and decent brakes!
Will an Omega fit the bill??
i was a fairly regular on the www.retro-rides.com so some of you may have seen me on there??
I have seen a few omega 2.5td around including a 2.5TD CD Manual with 147k fairly localy.
I've read a few psosts already about the engine and manual gearbox is best helped out by a chip as pretty slugish as standard. keep your eyes peeled and drop me a pm if you know of a god one for sale please :) thanks all and nice to meet you.

Welcome to the forum. :)
Try to get a higher spec than a CD if you can. I didn't know the difference when I got mine and would dearly love an Elite. I think that most people on here would recommend at least CDX spec. :y

cheers! will bare that in mind. ps my budget is £1k.. is that gonna find me a fairly decent pre facelift model?

Depends on what you're looking for in terms of age, mileage etc. Keep an eye on Ebay which seems to be good for buyers but not so hot for sellers.
£1,000 might be tight for a decent diesel but you never know your luck. There are some really good experts on here who will tell you what to look out for and what to avoid. :y

Welcome to the site.
Speaking as a 2.5TD owner (as well as 3.0l V6), the economy of the TD is awful around town, but good on a run. I average around 37mpg (mine is chipped), my daily commute is 25m of slow A road.
If you commute is slowish, below 60mph, or you do a lot of town driving, then consider a manual (bit rarer on 2.5TD).
The 2.5TD is quite slow in standard form, as its detuned to prevent it eating the weak AR25 auto gearbox fitted. Even the manuals are detuned. If you want to chip (improves economy a bit), the manual is strong enough, but the auto isn't (you need to fit the stronger AR35 gearbox).
