I think it generally gets a thumbs up.

Clarkson makes the program (but couldn't survive without other 2).  Once you accept the TG is not a motor review program as it used to be. Its a big boys toys program.  I know a few of Clarksons mates, but not the man himself.

i read the biography on Clarkson, really fascinating.

Clarkson has made a name for being outspoken, its what people expect of him these days, Vauxhall aren't the only ones who dont like him, there are a few other car makers who have stipulated that he does not review their cars.
People like that of Clarkson, he almost speaks up for the little man, he has an huge amount of influence on the car buying public, when he praised the Monaro and said it was the best thing that Vauxhall had made in a long time Vauxhalls sale shot up, and for the first time in nearly a decade Vauxhall headed up the sales charts.

I remember when the Omega was being phased out Clakson commented that it was a car that handled well but depreciated too quickly because of the Vaux badge (this was around the time he was really anti Vaux)

His favourite mini cab car and run TV people around in car was the Omega - they mourned it going out of production with no replacement

I remember when the Omega was discontinued, clarkson commented that it was one of the best cars to be sat in the back of after an S-Class

He said when he was being collected in a car for a bash/do/show or whatever, he hopped for an S-Class, but was not disappointed with the Omega.

I can remember when Noel Edmonds used to present Top Gear. He did a review of the Fiat Strada and described it as the ugliest car he had ever seen, saying that it looked like 'a child wearing national health specs'. Some years later, Edmonds was being interviewed about Top Gear and he said that the president of Fiat had sent out an instruction for all advertising to be withdrawn from the BBC as a result of this poor review.

As far as Clarkson is concerend, check out his TimesOnline (http://driving.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_and_style/driving/jeremy_clarkson/) column. It is always a good laugh and kills a few minutes of the working day if you are feeling fed up. :)

Exactly, shows that having a non-commercial broadcaster used to mean that there was some objectivity in it's reporting meaning that the BBC could say what it meant. Unfortunately, in these days of PC, this doesn't seem to be the case any more.

The BMW 5 won. And Hammond had the Omega and crashed it right at the begining into the Scorpio that May was Controling.

I think there is a lot more to Clarkson than his laddish Top Gear persona.  Anyone who watched his excellent Brunel pitch for the greatest Briton or the documentary on the sea battle (can't recall the place) will know what I mean.
