Title: Hello - help me stop!
Post by: Pete1968 on 05 June 2008, 22:52:29
Hello everyone,

I found this place after a quick google and after a bit of a snoop around thought it would be a good idea to register.  I think I might be asking a good few questions!

I've got a 2000 2.5V6 CDX.  Plenty of the usual toys (heated seats are the best invention ever!) and whilst I don't pretend it's a Ferrari it's stunningly competent.  Very reliable, easy to cover big distances and has done a darned good job so far.  It's cost me a lot less to run than equivalent certain German models  I have owned previously (*cough 5 series cough*) and been a whole lot more dependable.

Inevitably after coming to close on 100,000 miles it now needs a few things doing.  I think a wheel bearing is on the way out and the front discs are bone china thin.  I've done such jobs on plenty of motors before and having seen the How Tos on here it looks very simple to do - unless anyone has some warnings on things to watch out for!

I will say one thing mind.  I really don't care for the amount of negative camber on the wheels - it can tramline suprisingly badly at times, eats tyres up and as I only go for upper range rubber it can hurt - and the tracking is a pain to maintain!  But minor gripes for what has been a very decent, well behaved motor.

Anyway, nice to be here and I look forward to asking plenty more questions!

Thanks for the tips.  I've added some stuff in the profile bit so I don't look quite so anonymous! :D

Hi Pete and welcome to OOF. :)

As already said by Albitz, if you can get to Wheel In Motion in Chesham they are experts in sorting out Omega wheel geometry and are used by many members of this forum including myself. Full set up costs £85 (inc VAT) for OOF members and will probably save you a fortune in tyres. :y

Thanks for the info about Wheel In Motion.  I work over in Reading so a visit might be on the cards.

I've ordered the discs and pads and will pick them up tomorrow morning.  Then it's sockets out, Round One!  :)

Neg & tramlining usually means wishbones. Mines done 101,000 so could be the same problem. :)

Well seeing as the motor's going to be up in the air tomorrow I may as well have a good look at them.  Are there any easy ways to check them for play etc?

Also, and daft as this may sound, where's the best place to put the axle stands if the jack is under the lifting point?

Oh, and hello to everyon too - this is a very friendly place! :)

Lordy this place is pretty darned good.  I have a problem with one of the rear windows not going up - takes an age pressing up and down and nudging with the switch to get it to rise home fully.  One search later on here and bingo! - answer found.  Although I now have to do a search on getting the door card off ;)

With a place like this who needs a Haynes manual?  [smiley=thumbup.gif]
