Why don't you snipe Ebay auctions ?. Its so easy, costs very little, and a lot of other winners use it. I won several auctions last week, and I was out working at the time. Go to www.ezsniper.com , log in with your Ebay ID and put in the item no and max price you want to pay. Then leave it. It will place your bid with about 5 secs to go, and if you have ever tried, you will know its nearly impossible to increase a bid in that time scale. I still occasionally bid manually, I work out the latency in my connection, and place my bid at the latency plus 5 secs before, but the net is such a variable thing that isn't guaranteed to work. Another thing is if you bid early, it shows you are also interested in the item, and alerts other bidders to your interest. Its like playing cards, and showing everyone "look I got an Ace". Shurely you want to keep your hand to your self until it matters. Someone else was complaining about his laptop battery going flat recently. If he sniped it, it wouldn't matter. Hell, I went on holiday a few months ago, I set up several snipes, and left them to it. Over there, I found an Internet Cafe and checked up to see how many I won. Its really that easy, you get 3 free snipes I think. I even won the Wife's car that way. I have used auctionsniper in the past, a slightly better user interface, but it keeps screwing up, Ezsniper works pretty well. I have been outsniped several times, but that's life. If you look at the bidding history of auctions you have missed, Snipers tend to place bids in the last 5 seconds, so you can see how many others are using them. Best of luck, and Don't Bid Against Me !!!! :y :y :y :y

Aaaahhh, the wonders of automation. As you say, ideal when you are on hols or know you will be unable to be at the PC at bid time but personally, I prefer the thrill of the chase or smell of the fox - call it what you will. I would rather sit and 'snipe' manually within the last few seconds rather than rely on programming.
Its like going hunting and getting someone else to load, aim, fire, hit and eat the kill, leaving you only to do the washing up...... ;D

No its like thinking "Ive got it, Ive got it, Ive........ Some other **** beat me to it". Trouble is there are too many 'professional' bidders out there, who either push up their own auctions, or seem to control the field for others. I was after some loft insulation the other night, and there were 4 identical lots up, I went for lots 3 and 4. They went for nearly twice the first 2 lots. And it was partly my fault, I placed a bid manually but got the clock wrong and bid a minute early !. That auction went for £185, a lot more than the the 2nd one at £102. I know, I hate this mechanised society we seem to live in, but unfortunately there is not much of an option, so I say, find the best tools that give you an advantage and use them. At the risk of deving into ancient history, look at BEOS, an alternative to M/S operating system. It is fast, even by todays standards, did a lot way back in 2001, but died because someone else was pulling the strings.
