Title: Is it possible to source brand new engines?
Post by: wakeyomega on 25 August 2007, 14:20:44
This is just an academic question (probably), I was wondering if you can actually buy a brand new vauxhall omega engine, e.g. an x25xe, and if so, what is the typical price? has anybody ever investigated this?

Hi,

Just called Vauxhall in Stoke on Trent.

They said they DO do new engines , all of em are £1800+vat (doesnt mater whether its the 2.5/2.6/3.0 or 3.2 v6)

That comes with new cambelt fitted but no ancilleries though.

Also it is based on exhange so the procedure would be paying £2500 , then when you take the old engine in they credit you £700 back!

BARGAIN ME THINKS!!

Or you could consider this (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330157747402) which, once you convert to ££'s, is around £820 or so plus another couple of hundred for shipping.

Its for a Catera which is the US version of the Omega, but the engine block is one and the same with only a few add-on differences to change over.

Worth a phone call or an e-mail, if you are in the market for one.   :y

Personally,

To save about £600 after shipping i would rather spend the £1800 and get a uk engine that i could take back anytime if it was faulty.

Plus at least its a genuine uk vauxhall engine then.

Matt

The engines were all built in the same factory.......

But take your point about return if theres a prob.  Its your cash your spending, after all!!   ;D   :y

Don't they have 'short engine' on TC? this is a serious question, btw, I don't have the book handy... (and too lazy to check online  ;D)

£1,800?? That dealer is making a healthy profit!

A fully reconditioned (ie all but brand new) V6 engine complete from Vx is about £1,400 as I recall (Marks DTM knows exactly).

I saw a brand new V6 on ebay a couple of weeks ago and I think it was £1495 but I can't remember if it was a 2.5 or 3.0.

A few years ago the tensioner went (on the previous Omega) but no engine damage was caused, the dealer said at the time that I was lucky (I know...) because they had a tensioner fail on another Omega shorty before that and that the cost of a new engine fitted was '£3,500'.
