Hi All,
I have read through a lot of the pages on here over the past few months since buying an Omega. So thanks to everybody for all of the advice on here, it has been very useful.
However it looks like the head gasket has gone and my mechanic has quoted me £800 to fix. I am simply not prepared to spend that much on it, but I am sure someone better equipped than me with tools/knowledge could sort it for less. Take a look in the 'for sale' section if interested.
Cheers,
Leo
Thanks,
Leo

I think your mechanic is a robbing dratsab!!!!!! Where abouts are you?
Oh and welcome by the way :y
PS you won't be able to post in the for sale section for another 49 posts ;)
-
Welcome .......Post up detailed symptoms in the General Help Section ----- a lot of HG failures are misdiagnosed. Don't give up on the beast yet :y
-
Hi Welung,
Thanks for the heads up on that..... Is that definitely too much? He said that he would need to send the head off to an engineer to be skimmed and crack tested because it was an aluminium block. Apparently that is why it was so expensive. You guys will know better than me whether he is being truthful or not!
I'm near Banbury/Oxford.
Also, just found out about not being able to post in the for sale section :)
Cheers

Hello Leo and a warm welcome to you! :y
Never trust a garage to properly diagnose and cost out a job properly on a miggy!! ::) ::) ::) ::) Always get a second opinion, and if you cannot do the job yourself, find a good mechanically minded friend who can for beer money!! :D :D ;)

Worrying.....get it way from him, if he cant tell the difference between a cast iron and alloy block then you have big issues!
800 quid is much to much.
It would probably be less at a dealer!
-
Yup, Vx rate it as 3.4 hours!
-
Hello and Welcome .. :)
Oxfordshire is fairly near some very expert help ... in Northants !!
Only 30 odd miles :)

-
Hi Entwood,
Where are you suggesting I go? Northampton is only 1/2 hour drive for me.... and about 3 bottles of water lol!
Cheers

The "main man" of the forum TB (TheBoy) himself lives in Northants area.. he has the tools and the knowledge to help in 99.999999 % of cases .... talk to him (nicely or you risk losing your post count :) )... if anyone can pinpoint your problem .. he can .. :)

Cant really add anything thing to the advice above other than this is by far the best forum to get the advice from.

Ok cheers, well I will see how I get on this weekend with the advice given today and if that doesn't solve anything then I will speak nicely to TB!

You've come to the right place for knowledge. Many members can help you, so don't give up on the old girl yet :y For a fraction of £800.00 :o :o :o :o SSIP takers. I'd steer well clear of that garage mate >:( >:(
