Im looking for payg for occasional use.
What do you use and any advice on cost would be appreciated
When all esle fails and im away from home with no connection for laptop i need access to internet, I have looked at a few and think 3 are coming up with the best deal unless you know better.. :y

avoid o2, very expensive.
Vodafone are the best for internet rates:
£7.50 flat fee per month
or
£1.00 charge max per day on PAY-G
Phone wise N95 has the best screen, but build lets it down.
Sony Ericcson phones are the best these days in terms of build.
Try the Opera Mini browser when on a mobile device, makes surfin on a phone a lot faster.
PM me on how to get the Opera Mini Browser ;)
-
I'm getting the E90 next month, will be keeping an eye on this thread for the same reason, pay as you go with internet included
-
Never go PAYGo if you want value. We ( The industry) put a premium on PAYGo simply becuase a percentage of the market are those that may not pass a credit check. That therefore means those that go PAYgo through choice pay that premium too....
Our PAYGo is market leading in price and produce and is still dearer than contract.

I agree Markie that payg is dearer but i have a contract phone which gives me a few thousand mins PM it can also access internet but i am only talking of minimum use as a back up..I do not want to get carried away and use mins up on the contract phone so would like to keep things seperate.. :y

Cheapest price, best content and fastest download speeds has always belonged to us via HSDPA on 3g.

Hi,
I beg to differ.
T-Mobile has hsdpa (high speed data packet access) , as does most of em now , but they have upgraded all their 3g masts to offer hsdpa now.
Three is too branded as is vodafone and orange.
O2 is crap and always has been behind everybody else in terms or 3g.
Ofcom fined them £750,000 last year for not having at least a certain percentage of the country on 3g. Vodafone were the people that grassed em up so i heard.
This is what i would do.......
PAYG - i would go with orange or t-mobile as both do a maximum charge of £1 for the day
CONTRACT - definitely T-Mobile , as they are at the top of the tree when it comes to speed , and have alot of hsdpa enabled handsets out (n95, vario 2 etc)

We shall agre to disagree then......JD power speaks volume on this one, customer churn also indicates otherwise as do the facts based on our contracts and tariffs against others. No one can touch us on price - we pitched a very aggressive ad launch slamming all of them and not one could come back and prove us wrong.
None of them have the sheer economies of scale we have - and if they do the funds are required elsewhere....nutshell is customer loses out.
-
From what i have read on the 3 website for a £2.50 add on it gives you a weeks internet access..This is better than a £1 a day but it depends on the service and signal i suppose..
Thanks for the info everyone.. :y

Erm.... i still beg to differ.
You say noone can touch us on price??? , T-mobile do the same £7.50 a month offer for internet but gives you 1gb limit instead of 120mb (and the charges after with vodafone are huge in comparison)
Secondly , the churn rate is indeed big at vodafone (i used to work there for 2 years , was a big figure in the development in 3g and internet) , and the churn rate was humungous. I still have friends working there now and the churn rate is STILL humungous!!
Thirdly... you say noone can prove us wrong. I disagree again unfortunately. T-Mobile were told by ofcom to limit the amount of connections on a daily base as they were connecting too many people to the datacard tariff (inclusive of voip data transfer).
Also..... PAYG 3g on vodafone costs £1 a day with a 15mb limit , t-mobile has the same £1 a day with a 40mb limit!
Alot more for the same money.
That my friend says t-mobile have the edge on hsdpa, 3g and price in the uk at the moment.
P.S i dont work for t-mobile. - just know my stuff ;)

still disagree - the facts speak for themselves.
fact we are cheapest
fact we are the most advanced
going t mobile is like buying a black and white tv - old technology.
i do work for you know who :y- i control 104 sales agents - its my job to ensure they know their stuff.....
but each to their own on which network ;)
-
...oh and no rumpus on my side - forums are all about discussion and opinion.
But if i dont get agreement on this from everyone i am going to quit :D ;D
I will extend my usual offer here - anyone thats with us can pm me and i will renew your deal cheaper (with a new free phone) than any published price, anyone thats intrested as a new customer I will see what i can do -
I create the deals internally so have a bit of scope to do favours - legitimately.
Mum pays £7.50 for 600 mins, 100 texts, and unlimited internet access....and got a Sony Walkman phone for free....
Guess i need to be passionate about the company that has employed me, but then again i wouldnt work with them if i ditnt believe passionatly about the product :)
Night All :y

Hi Markie,
I like a good forum discussion too ;)
I still disagree to be honest. You say that vodafone are still cheaper? £7.50 for vodafone , £7.50 for t-mobile? ISN'T THAT THE SAME?
Also , how are t-mobile like watching black and white tv? , lol...... there is nothing that vodafone offer that t-mobile dont?!?!?!?
ALso, im glad you are passionate in your job with vodafone. I used to be very passionate when it was Singlepoint (owned by john caudwell) , and used to take home a minumum of £4,500 per month. The moment vodafone took over , my performance related bonus dropped from £40k to £15k in a flash, and my basic wage remained the same at £40k
Not very good, hence why i lost the passion, lost the will to go on and left.
Matt ;)

I have 3 on my nokia N80, It's PAYG, i cant fault it, the internet is free to browse on alot of sites, i get Ebay for free and others too, but there are some that limit it, and you have to pay....
But there are other benefits too... Every time you recive a text you get 2p, and everytime someone calls you you get 1p a minute, this all adds up, I put £20 a month on mine, then with the rewards get about £11 a month on the top, so thats £33 for £20, Cant knock that.
I have been with 3 for a few years now, changed from vodafone, with there extortionate pricing, maybe different know, but they werent then.....
Hope this helps, Mark. :y

Markie does not work for Voda ;) (if he did, I would be shouting at him daily for poor coverage around my house ;D)
Markie - my o2 contract ends in October - I will drop you a PM. Do you still drop back to o2 if poor coverage? o2 is only thing that works at home....
-
Just to add my tuppence. T-Mobile coverage is diabolical down here in the west country. Our phone bills have dropped dramatically since we changed to them. Not because they are cheaper, although I believe they are, but because no one can get a signal hence we make far fewer calls. This is a major problem for our business and we will be dropping them when our contract expires.
-
Markie do you work for 3? :o
lol , i wont go on anymore about them , i would never get anything done.
Matt
-
.... ::) ::)
We are away of at a tangent here....I wont get involved in a public slagging match on networks and coverage. I am aware of the industry facts on dropped calls, churn, costs and so on. Obviously such information is not for public consumption.
As mentioned some time ago - we shall agree to disagree.
Now back to the topic in hand Spongebob, you are indeed correct in your opening statement. Should you want or need any additional help drop me a pm ;)
-
Markie,
Im not getting into a slanging match. I have a different opinion than you have , due to my experience in mobile phones. i think your opinion is totally biaed as you work for three. When i worked for vodafone i still thought t-mobile was best (a totally unbiased opinion).
I do know about cutomer churn, dropped calls, pricing etc etc
Most of it IS available for the public to see , especially price.
I find it a bit silly you think as you work at 3 , you know whats right and everybody else doesnt.
You say his opening statement was true. WRONG!, your opinion is that its true. The FACT is for value for money and download limits t-mobile are the best package overall.
Whether companies use different budgets, or they have had an agressive advertising strategy, doesnt make a single difference to somebody who wants occasional internet.
Therfore indeed any of the networks would suffice, but if its value for money then t-mobile is the best which is a fact.
For best network quality overall i would say three is up there at the top. Coverage is a postcode lottery, you know that. So what is absolutely the k9's undercarriage for one person is a nightmare of dropped calls, gprs instead of 3g etc etc.
So Spongebob, i would check which has the very best coverage in your area and choose that network (apart from o2).
Matt
-
Ah Coverage !! The next problem.
In my new job when i get one that is, it will take me all over the UK probably, so its not a question of check my area for coverage, it may be hit and miss with any of the networks on certain days if you see what i mean.In my last job i usually stayed on the outskirts of London but due to my not knowing in advance it poses a problem..
This was the reason is asked the question in the first place as up until now i have stayed in hotels but being a driver i could also be staying in the cab of a truck so just covering all possibilities..
Its making interesting reading..To me at least.. As for internet use this would only be for a few sites like here, Ebay and similar, It could be 1 night a week or 4 nights a week at other times, who knows but thanks for the contribution to this read everyone..

Theres nothing silly about being factual and analytical.

lol ;D ;D
Big words dont mean big knowledge.
Factual your wrong. Opinion your right.
Lets leave it at that. (no doubt im going to get a ubiquitous, bnarl, pugnatious, egotistical, crass, supercilious reply again)
Only pulling your leg markie boy. ;D ;) ;D

Or your opinion of that facts ;)
Though I agree with comment on use what works well for you.
As a consumer, for the areas I am in, o2 is far superior to anything else. Nothing works well at home except o2. We have had o2 since digital came out, and prices ok if you move tariff at end of contract - 2 o2 phones have cost me about £10 each this year on contract (100m/100t pm). Voda, my works phone, has decent coverage, but doesn't work at all well near my house. Prices, hard to say, as I gave up my old personal voda years ago, and the works one is on a corporate tariff, usually between £5 - £15 per month, including internet. T-Mobile, woeful, virtually non existent coverage between here and work (25 miles), glad i borrowed it before committing to 18 month contract (only way to get sensible price), hopeless. Frequently, even with reasonable signal, unable to use. Orange, better than t-mobile coverage wise around my way, similar priced package, but the better o2/voda coverage for similar money is a no brainer for me. t-mobile, similar money, longer contract, virtually zero coverage around here came in last for me.
No experience of 3, so cannot comment.

in that case, i would consider the big 2 - o2 and voda, or at least networks that drop back to them (for free) when own coverage is naff.
just my 2p, and dont want to enter a 'my network is better than yours, thats a fact, because they said so' argument...
