Title: Back from death
Post by: RonaldMcBurger on 07 September 2006, 16:55:37
Project 12, my penultimate Omega. This is the Silver 2.5CDX Auto Estate I bought from Wales.

Already did front wishbones, drop links and steering idler two weeks ago. Then tracking.

Yesterday did the engine stuff. New cambelt and tensioners (genuine vx ones) also new water pump (again vx one). Then moved on to breathers. Totally blocked, and I do mean BLOCKED. took several hours to get most of the crud out. the plenum black box was finally free flowing on the two smaller pipes and one big one. The other remains blocked solid, so a replacement box is being arranged. It will do for now as the two bigger pipes are interflowing, so there will be no problem as such.

Cambelt was a tooth out on cams 2 and 4.

Also replaced scuttle. I had the newer type with blanks for the windscreen jets, as fitted to facelifts. The base is different to the old ones and has the absornat nappy material in. It had perished and was letting water fall directly onto the DIS pack. I think I disturbed it when getting at the plenum back parts. So I swapped it for an older one, problem solved.

Took the car to Enfield today on a 270 mile round trip. Car returned 34mpg average and drove faultlessly.

Aircon works well now, thanks Matchless.

I should say a huge thanks to Mark once again for his invaluable help with the idler. how does he do that? ;D

All I need now is a replacement tailgate (in the pipeline) and a couple of tyres.

So, a £400 banger is returned to its former glory. 157k on the clock now, but it drives like a new car. Quite pleased, although this car is a pressie for Mrs mcBurger.

What was to be project 13 is sort of shelved. It is the 2000 W-reg 2.5v6 CD. I am basically going to sort out the engine so it at leats runs on 6 by the weekend, then it will be on Ebay for a quick sale as-is.
