Title: Another new member
Post by: francisn on 19 July 2010, 18:08:06
Hi All

Just joined

I've had my Nautilus Blue Oct 95 Omega 2.5 CDX since new. It was was my company car till I was made redundant in 1999 and I decided to buy it from the company. At that point it had done just over 80K and now it's on 172K. So just run in!

My days of crawling under cars with spanners are long gone and I have a tame Vauxhall mechanic who comes and looks after the car in my drive. But I have recently quite enjoyed doing a bit of  bodywork repair and have just finished respraying (aerosol) a rear wing and door which had got a bit of rust. As a first time sprayer it took me a couple of goes to get it right but it's quite therapeutic really Now I am machine polishing it to get it back to a better state after I had rather let it go.

I came across this forum while looking for a cheaper source of parts (trackrods in this instance) as I got a bit of a shock when my guy fitted some lower suspension bushes a couple of weeks ago.

All in all the car has given me great service (been all over from Northern Germany to Italy and lots of other places in between). The evaporator on the AC packed up some years ago and the consensus was that it wasn't worth getting it sorted and the LCD readout display is now pretty well shot, but I will replace it if I can find one at a sensible price (or does anyone know where to get it refurbed? Lots of pixels missing). But other than that it is mechanically in pretty good nick and I've always spent what was needed to keep it that way.

I love the car and now being semi retired couldn't warrant spending the money on another large big engined petrol car, so it has to keep on going to keep me happy. :D

Looking forward to being part of this community.

Unfortunately I have become rather "rotund" in my later years and I would need a rather large jack and oversized axle stands  :D

It's rather sad that in one's youth, when you have no idea what you are doing, you HAVE to do these things (cos of lack of dosh) then one can afford not to and don't due to lack of time, and then finally when you have time and knowledge you are physically incapable.

As I said - bodywork requires less gymnastics and is quite therapeutic.
