Hello chaps! I've come to that time, and I'm still very tempted by Omega ownership, the bang for buck is just so tempting! I'm probably going to go and view this: http://bit.ly/eW4fUF at some point next week. You're the experts, does that seem a good price on the face of it? And what should I look out for?
I'll keep you all informed, anyway...

welcome, looks a smart omega for price, all ive heard of 2.2 suffering with is headgaskets going at times so id check that out long test drive + watch temp gauge, check for mayo in oil + water tank water for contamination, but as a dealer is selling should be ok anyway as he wouldnt have bought it in i suppose?

Sorry i don't agree with that comment, check for service history, when serviced etc and get it done asap ;-o)

Dealer has loads of more expensive stuff, so my guess is PX to clear, has a years MOT so should be generally OK, but gotta make sure the usual problems aren't apparent... will give them a ring soon and book a test drive, but will check finer details too. I'll keep you informed. Besides head gasket, any other problems that are common?

Check all the electric buttons work, lights, including reverse, no warning lights on the dash, service history n oh yeah service history. Most big servicing is 80k i believe :-X
Good luck :y

Welcome to OOF mate :y

Hi John welcome mate :y & she looks a nice one good luck.
-
Cheers everyone, going to ring them tomorrow and if it sounds like a winner I'll go view Wednesday - hopefully she's mechanically as decent as she looks! If there are any minor jobs that need doing I'll barter them off the price.
-
Also, if things like Cam belt or rocker cover gaskets need to be done, would anyone be willing to help me out? I'll drive to you and pay of course! Just trust you chaps more than most garages!
Just a little background on me - I write about cars for a living, and I can usually diagnose problems, but my spanner wielding skills aren't exactly Jedi-level, so help appreciated!
I'm really hopeful that this is a decent car, not just because I want an Omega, but because this 'family' of Omega Owners is, by far and away, the nicest owners forum I've ever experienced!
So fingers crossed...

Hello John. The car looks lovely. I've also got a 52 plate 2.2 CD auto saloon although mine's silver and with a few less miles on the clock. I've had mine nearly 18 months now and no major problems. I had the cambelt replaced at 72,000 miles (I think they need doing every 40k) and needed a new O2 sensor last Spring. Not the cheapest car to run but probably the most comfortable and at that purchase price you can afford to spend a bit more on petrol. Hope it works out OK for you.

Hello John, welcome to the forum, nice car. :y
-
Hi john welcome to the mad house...looks like a nice car...same mileage as my one when i brought her..as said before really look at any tell tale signs of failing head gaskets and timing belts needs to be done at 40,000..and exhausts as a new vauxhall complete system comes out at just under £ 1,000 :y

I rarely drive now, and when I do it's up and down the motorway once every 3 or 4 days, so that's the reason for the change! I have just sold my Saxo VTR today, which was cheap on fuel but went through spares at a rate of knots! So I'm hoping an Omega will be fairly reliable in comparison ;)
