Title: Spoiler/brake lights question
Post by: LFF64 on 03 September 2007, 19:30:51
Does anyone know if I fit a boot spoiler with a brake light in does it really need to be wired in as I already have a high level brake light. I seem to think that the ruling is if there is a light fitting on the car it has to be working,is this correct  :question I am now thinking that I could not connect the light and use spray paint to spray over the light section to effectivley blank it out and leave the high level light working. Of course the other option is to remove the high level one and fit the blank back in place which I have from the last car . I know it would have been easier to buy a spoiler without the light in but this spoiler is the correct colour for my car as is the grille I picked up at the same time  ;D

legally i'm not sure, but i dont think it would make a difference if you took out the bulb then filled and sprayed

after all, not all cars have the middle brake light to start with!

legally your fine. From mot point of view if the light is fitted and connected it has to work if it is not connected and there is no evidence of wires etc it would pass as long as you tell the tester it is not connected.

here is the mot manual deffinition

Additional stop lamps
Any additional stop lamps fitted and connected must be tested. Where extra lamps are fitted and there is doubt as to whether they are connected, the benefit of this doubt should be given to the presenter.

so if you tell them its not connected they have to beleve you and pass it.
