Title: Ronnie project updates
Post by: RonaldMcBurger on 11 July 2006, 18:06:16
Ok guys. Those of you who are brand new here, welcome again. You won't know what I've been up to. For those who know me, bear with me while I run down a brief history here....

(http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e219/ronaldmcburger/th_IMG_1577.jpg) (http://i40.photobucket.com/albums/e219/ronaldmcburger/IMG_1577.jpg)

Omega Project 1: 1996 2.5v6 CDX Auto Estate in Green. First omega and very neglected by previous owners. Ended up as the nicest Omega I have driven to date bar none, but took some getting there including: Cambelt & tensioners, water pump, both front wishbones, both front drop links, full breather system clean, both banks of rocker gaskets, Both front calipers, discs, pads etc. Full service and finally DIS pack failure. Oh and a fuel filter change.

Omega Project 2: 1996 2.5v6 Tourer Manual Estatein Silver. Full breather system clean,  rocker gaskets, cambelt & tensioners and a full service.

Omega Project3: 1997 3.0v6 Elite Auto Estate in Blue. Gorgeous car. Bought as having a faulty gearbox, but nothing wrong with gearbox. Turned out to be DIS pack failure. Also did Cambelt & tensioners, full service and away it went.

Omega Project 4: 1999 2.5v6 Reflection Manual Saloon in Green. Complete pig of a car. Rocker gaskets blown, filthy and I do mean FILTHY inside, scratches and dents everywhere outside, pulling badly to left and steering very vague. Cleaned full breather system, replaced rocker gaskets, full service, new steering idler, 4 wheel tracking and a good clean and polish.

Omega Project 5: 1996 2.5v6 'Tourer' Auto saloon (wrongly labelled in log book). MoT failure, plus write off due to the worlds smallest dent in the back. Fixed dent, changed front discs, changed rear exhaust couldn't get sealed so sold on as a project.

Omega Project 6: 1999 2.5TD Elite Auto saloon. Bought as a non runner with no gearbox and having been stood for 8 months. Arrived in a very sorry state indeed having been butchered by someone who really had no idea what they were doing. Slowly put back together and replacement gearbox (AR35) obtained and fitted with the great help of Laidback. Much help from MarksDTMCalib and we had it all running again with Turbo working fully. Loads of time spent on little bits and details, but now a fully restored car and used daily.

Omega Project 7: 1998 2.5TD GLS Estate Autoin titanium. Bought as accident damaged and non runner having stood for over 13 months. Front nearside damage to wing, bonnet, bumper, oil cooler, bumper irons, lights, drivers wing as well. All panels replaced with identical colour ones from a donor car of the same year. Damaged pulled out with a lot of effort and use of hydraulic rams. All brake discs, pads and raer shoes raplaced as was the handbrake. Seconadry problem was the engine which had been running on veggie oil. Tank had 49 litres of the stuff and had to be drained. New fuel lifter pump, new fuel filter housing, new glow plugs and diesel return pipes and awayit went. Straight through its MoT and now used daily. One of the best Omegas I've driven.

Omega Project 8: 1996 2.5TD CDX Auto Estate in Titanium (coincidence). Bought as non runner with broken auto gearbox. Changed Autobox with much help from Laidback again. This time much quicker job and again used AR35 box from donor 3.0v6. Engine now running, but power is down to about 70%. Fault we think is the fact that the exhaust looks like the original unit and is blowing badly at the raer box/middle section joint and I suspect the CAT is blocked as well. Replacement CAT obtained today and mid/rear sections should be available by tomorrow, so total exhaust replacement and that will be a great car. Everything works including aircon, so another great project nearly done.

Omega Project 9: 2002 Peugeot 206 1.1LX withA/C. OK, nothing to do with Omegas, I just bought it for another project. Nothing wrong withcar at all, just like it:

That neighbour has, wait for it, 3 Robin Reliants, a Polo that never gets used, 3 trailer tents and several other heaps in his back garden. Each to their own I suppose.

The pug has a purpose. All will be revealed in good time. :D

Nice to see you as well mate. I hope many of the 'regulars' stick with us. Any suggestions are very welcome and please feel free to use the suggestions box..... which I will set up now! :o

Sure they will all wing there way here gradually.......and i Knew there was a reason for a pug.

As for suggestions, oh i think you guys should sit back and look on proudly - you have done enough work...for now :D

Maybe in a few weeks we can all start to think of suggestions.

In the meantime enjoy what you have all created here - looks brilliant!

ps im going to be needing your advice soon, going to be taking the v6 engine out the cdx (just because). Bit different from a 1.4 k series!

Shall we start a sweep then.........the ONLY reason a man ever buys a small pug is because hes.....

a) A hairdresser
b) Runs a body shop and needs a courtesy car
c) Won it in a raffle
d) Driving instructor
e) Went to an auction stoned and was trying to wave to a friend

Wasn't the 206 voted the worlds 'most Gay car' about 4 or 5 yrs ago by one of those wide-boys mags?

Go to the top of the Class Mr Russell! I am impressed. Either that, or Laidback told you????? ;D

Yep, now the cat is out of the bag. I have just returned from my Part 1 exam, which I am pleased to say I scraped through by pure luck  passed.

Now, on to Part 2, which is a test of driving skills. This is possibly the hardest part as the standard expected is actually very high. I have done all this before years ago and was trained for government driving in parliament etc, so it should all count. Laidback will no doubt mention how I drive. Go on..... lets here it........
