Well, its nearly done.
Tomorrow it gets a new windscreen fitted and then on Thursday its MOT time.
Today the Nova is having its last ever drive to work (9 years almost to the day since its first!) before it gets taken away on Thursday evening for pastures new (a run around, XE conversion or destined to be a washing amchine, who knows!).
The cat has been fitted, a headlight washer is being borrowed for the MOT and it now has 3 electric windows (still awaitng delivery of the loom for No 4).
Then its 3.0 goodness for me!
-
3.0 goodness and a big grin too?
you mentioned headlight washer - would it really fail for not having this, mines been through two without a problem with no washers.. :-/
....or is this you being a perfectionist Mark
-
Trouble is it has HID lighting so its a requirement it works if fitted (apparantly!).
Its not worth taking a risk when I can borrow one from 'car park' spares.
-
You bought your Hi vis jacket yet ;D
Sure you'll have fun out on the motorways.
-
Yep, thats in, plus the 10 CD changer and stereo.....its white shirt time for me at work!

So you have the look alike car and office attire, Mark remember the 8-) shades and Donuts :P

In many euro countries its a legal requirement to carry on. I got back from France, and forgot to take it off the parcel shelf - its amazing how many people slowed down....
-
I forgot about the CD changer cover, sorry. I'll try tomorrow.
I must say you have done us proud with that car mate. I saw it last night and can say it is the bees knees. The engine looks like you could eat off it - if you wanted food poisoning of course! ;D No seriously, a great job done very well. I am impressed and think you will enjoy that car A LOT!
-
These forums have a bad effect on my wallet, first its the I.C.E from VxON and now instead of a sub i want an ex-plod omega for a bit of fun! :)
Thx for the PM Fin, marktcom from VxON

Well, took it for a winscreen this morning and the dam ECU light has come on......its flashing very fast so I suspect crank sensor although its showing no symptoms yet.
Will clear the codes tonight and then read them out.
It still drives, starte and idles perfectly though!
It sure is quick though!
-
Sounds like a good car, it is really satisfying to get a car right
-
quicker than the Nova Mark? ;)
-
Mmm.....tough one realy, to 30 I doubt it.......beyond yes.
Still some work to do on it, the aircon doesn't work yet (condenser I suspect), one rear electric window to fit (dead easy upgrade this if you dont have them!), boot lock to sort, fornt wheel arch liners to get and replace....
Still, get an MOT on it (hopefuly) tomorrow and work from there.
-
Has the a/c died again??
And forget the car park spares idea, I will loan you a washer jet but I prefer to remove it myself.
-
Well, the good news is it passed the MOT without even an advisory!
That was despite the ECU light being on, it would appear that the autos and manuals do NOT use the same lambda sensors and the cat that I got for it came from a manual.
So its Taxed and ready to go.......now I can start getting the other bits right.

Seems bizarre. I would have thought they would be....
-
It seems that thre are a few different ones, going to try to under stand what is different.
Its currently flagging a lambda sensor heater fault which the ECU can not actualy monitor but, the switching speed of the lambda is related to temp so I suspect the ECU is guessing....
Hence it still maintains good mixture control....
-
Congrats on the MOT mark - least its legal and you can fix on your own terms!
-
Congrats on the MOT :)
-

mine went through it's MOT OK - the nozzles were fitted but the pump was disconnected - that's on a 1999 elite with HID headlights ... ??

Mark the donor was a 2.5 GLS saloon Auto!!
-
There is also a difference between the 2.5 and 3.0 so I need to do some more digging, good to so you on here to Issunaz.
Took the car for its first good run at the weekend, 300 mile round trip. Performed faultlessly and dam does it go when you let it!
Its getting better the more its used, auto box is learning my driving style and the followers are quietening down slowly to.
-
auto box is learning my driving style
Whats that - not to bother changing up until 24 little dents appear in the bonnet where the valves can no longer stay in.... ;D
-
more difficult to do with the auto box as it normally changes up (just) before the redline ... but if Mark's driving style is like mine, the phrase "squeal little piggy" comes to mind!! ;D
After all, it's a bit pointless having the power and not making use of it ...
-
Quite amusing driving along the back lanes around Lechlade, put the headlights on and everything moves out the way!

That maybe coz the local old bill still use meega's ;D.....still see a few 03 plates.....one looks really tatty with it yellow and red stripes.....really scuffed....looks like its had many drunks thrown on to it!! ;D .....like they do when cuffing em
-
It's amazing how many people suddenly remember how there indicators work, how to read the speedometer and to be a safer, more considerate driver when they think the meega behind them is the local plod.
Mine is an ex-Thames Valley RPU car is great fun to drive around, especially on the motorways or fast A-roads. Helped even more by the fact it's gleaming white and I have thus far resisted the temptation to do any work on the outside, so, proper police style wheel trims and lack of rear lip spoiler.
3.2 manual - who said driving isn't fun!
As for the high-vis jackets, I haven't the bottle to keep one in the passenger compartment or wear one whilst driving but I do have one in the boot, just in case ;)

I'm glad to hear that you are enjoying your new motor, you should post a few pics of how it looks now, last picture i have seen was the one showing the brand new looking engine. I assume that finally there was nothing wrong with the heads gaskets which is good news.
