I currently own a 3.0 MV6 auto 00 plate facelift, within the next few months i may be able to get a new car. I was looking to get as last of the Omegas as poss a 3.2 MV6 manual on a 03 plate. Basically i want to know if a 3.2 is any better then the 3.0?
Many thanks
Jim

I have a 2.6 now and had a 2.5 before, and I think that the same rule applies as for the 3.0/3.2.
I am not sure if you will actually feel the (claimed) slightly higher bhp and torque, but in my view the 2.6/3.2 engines have an advantage over the 2.5/3.0 because of the fact that there is no DIS pack, no HT leads, no EGR, no ICV, and no throttle control linkage & cable (it's FBW). Much less to go wrong... and also much easier to work on DIY without all these bits to get in the way.
Also, in theory the 2.6/3.2 engines should last longer than the 2.5/3.0 because their compression ratio is lower thus they are not worked as hard, but TBH the original V6 seems to run forever anyway so I doubt if this issue should be a real consideration.
Oh, and the down side of this is that apparently you can't chip the 2.6/3.2, just in case you were considering an M-Tek mod....

Ok, you will not be able to get a 3.2 manual unless it is an ex-police job (nothing wrong with them by the way, generally absolute bargains!)
Is it better than a 3.0?
In manual form, undoubtedly! :D
The 3.2 is not as "good" on fuel but has more emission controls to deal with.
It does not have the DIS pack, idle control valve, secondary air injection etc to deal with though.
I was looking at a 3.2 manual myself and there is one on ebay right now which is well worth a look. It is up for £2,200 but I reckon it can be had for 2k.
I will find the link for anyone interested.

Oops... yes, as Laidback said, no secondary air injection (forgot about that...)
-
Those ignition modules are less reliable than the DIS pack/plug lead setup by the way so I'm not convinced thats an advantage.
Plus the higher compression ratio helps emisions and power and would not add to engine wear.
It is a simpler system though.

You may be right there - but it is still easier to replace a 3-coil pack (5 minutes job on the driver's side...) than the DIS. :) Also the coil packs have a rubber seal which prevents rocker cover oil leaking into the plug wells - a known problem on the V6...
Plus the higher compression ratio helps emisions and power and would not add to engine wear.
In the olden days, we used to mod non-turbo engines by 'shaving' the head to increase the compression ratio, at the cost of greater bottom-end wear due to the higher force required to compress the mixture. But this may be different on modern engines...

I have an ex-police 3.0MV6 MK2 chipped by police 210-254BHP which has 152000 miles on drives like new man box aswell, have had a look in vauxhall mags 0.2 secs quicker to 0-60 about 2-4 more BHP but same top speed for the 3.2 if u are going to get one have a look on ebay have seen loads of 3.2MV6 ex-police manual on there going for about £3000 (v/good buy) on a 02 -53 plate hope this can help u thanks liam :)

He can keep the rest of the car .... but here's another Omega with no DIS, seconday air injection cr4p, rubber band drive etc etc :o

No but, it does have dizzy, rotor, plug leads and a single timing chain....all renowned for trouble and that is a VERY heavy lump which really unsettles the handling......granted it was a good lump but, not better then the V6.
This I know thanks to Laidback66's and my ChezkWrecks project car:
Its had:
Autobox fluid change
Full brake fluid flush and replacement
Full strip down, clean and service of front and rear brakes with new pads on the rear (disc's and other friction material is surprisingly good!)
Sill welded (for the MOT)
Heater control replaced (had to get rid of the custom toggle switch!)
Oil and filter
Plugs, dizzy cap and rotor
Plug leads.
Plus a few other odds and sods....
So, here it is in all its glory.....
The dash, now where is that column surround, ow bugger it, its not important!

A great shot of the two tone interior, full leather with the exception of the front seats!
Some strange person trying to steal it..... ;)
The considerably cleaner engine bay, maybe now we will find that oil leak......or we could use the trail to find our way home :P
(http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b394/Marks_DTM_Calib/IMG_0569.jpg)
And the most important bit......the right number of cylinders and the right number of valves....!

And another Czechwrecks team think the Mondeo 2.5V6 is a better choice.... ;D
It may be old, have a dodgy interior and not handle as well as an Omega V6, but it doesn't half shift (as the Mondeo team will discover!) 8-)

It actualy looks pretty presentable in the above pics!
-
I have washed it too! :o

hmmmmm Thanks guys, its the same decision i had when buying the vec : do i get the 2.5 or 2.6. And now do i get the 3.2 or keep the 3.0 and have a play?
I think i may just keep Meg and have a play, So wat has anyone else done to theirs preformance wise, ive already fitted a induction kit and have a stainless exhaust in mind.
Many thanks
jim
P.S the senator looks quite flush, wouldnt mind a ride ;)
-
Consider one of MTek's chips (on offer at moment - see for sale section)
Induction kits on Omega do not increase performance it seems. SOmetimes even reduces it. Does give it that unique sound though...
-
Mark/ Dave
That Senny looks really really good - inside and out.
Remind me/ wasnt that had for the price of a good night out!?
If so you guys did well!
-
The Senator was bought for £100... and clearly the pictures are misleading! ;D
-
It cost all of a ton.....and has had very little extra spent on it.
-
Personally I wouldn't bother, although I haven't driven a 3.2 I seriously doubt you'll notice the difference going by the published figures. Maybe a little more torquey, but almost certainly not worth the hassle of changing unless there are other compelling reasons. A 3.0 manual will definitely be quicker than a 3.2 auto so I'd recommend going for a different gearbox rather than engine if you're after a change :D
-
A good thing to do with your car is put a super chip in it beacause the police did this to my 3.0MV6 manual it's gone from 210-254 BHP and it dosent half shift also where it's white and has ariels on the roof (left on by police) people move out ya way on motorway so trying a chip i would recommend
