Anyone know the part number for the Black sealent for the cam covers please...my local vx dealer tells me the green one is the correct sealent for the cam covers it's the one they use?..though it seems everyone on here recomends the black one...part number please so I can just order it without debating with them which is right and which is wrong :-/
Cheers Gord.

The sealant we used in the V6 plant for the cam covers was Loctite 5900 - you can buy it from toolsup.co - expensive but its a standard size mastic tube so lasts a lifetime - or you can sell it on - the same stuff was used on the sump its £27 inc postage - but this is the best sealant I have ever used and after using various types this is what the plant went to in the end.

Its in the mainetnance guide and the dealer is WRONG....they are not reading EPC properly!
Sealent, Black (not the Green stuff!): 90485251, 1 off
The green stuff is what goes between the front cam bearing and head to stop oil leaking.
Tell them they are a bunch of muppets! ;D

I used the Green Stuff and now am needing to do the Rocker Cover Gasket again great fun.
Shall definately be getting the black stuff as the green stuff I think has gone hard as the lower half at the front looks to be coated in oil, possibly has travelled down behind the rear cambelt cover. :(

Thanks for the part number guys..got the black stuff today (though the vx main dealer still maintains the green stuff is what I should use ::)) as I now have a tube of the green stuff as well...what is it used for ? other than ( the front cam bearing and head to stop oil leaking. thanks mark!) or is that it?
Cheers Gord.

I seem to have it down as P/N 93165267, but it is very porbably the same thing, Vx do tend to have several P/Ns for one product.

Can someone confirm this is definately the right stuff to use only I plan to get a rocker gasket and sealant on saturday and I dont really want the parts guy to talk me into getting the green stuff again as its crap.

Well if that's the P/N Mark DTM gave you, then this is the right product... :)
Ignore my posts....

I dont think 93165267 is the same thing....looks like its the grey sealent for the oil cooler plate.
I can't think of any other joints where the Green goo is used (its also used on the 8 valve power plants on the cam box to head joint) but, I am sure there are some around the bottom end
