Title: Which rocker gaskets?
Post by: The Barge Captain on 28 August 2006, 19:49:03
I need to replace the RH rocker gaskets on my new 97 2.5 barge, only i've just had a look on ebay and there seem to be two types. One has two seperate gaskets  (In and out cams) the other is a one piece figure of 8 shape and comes with 16 o-ring type thingys.
Any thoughts?

yeah, buy genuine Vx parts!

There have been lots of reports of the pattern parts not lasting....

Sorry, I know it will seem more expensive, but will be cheaper in long run.  Make sure you use the BLACK sealent, whatever dealer tries selling you...

Take a look at the maint guide from Mark DTM.  He is clear on only using Vx parts for this particular job, and shows the part numbers you need.

camcover gaskets :

Go to Vx, no question.

The pattern ones last 3 months tops then go hard and start leaking.....which is why you changed them in the first place.

To recap...

Camcover gaskets...Vx ONLY.

If you're lucky enough to have a good motor factor that sources decent parts you never need to pay VX tax.  My non VX gaskets are still going strong after nearly a year and were £13 a side.  Can't remember the brand i'm afraid.  I'd avoid Ebay made-in-Taiwan-specials for this particular job though, based on the bad experiences of others!

I seem to recall that the Vx ones are £25ish. Given the poor life of many, many 3rd party cam gaskets, I wouls spend the extra...
