Title: Remote central locking. 97 2.0 GLS
Post by: SHARPEY on 02 September 2006, 14:28:29
Another thing I forgot to ask about. The car opens with the remote but doesn't lock. Could this be a relay problem ? How easy is it to programme a new key fob cos I want to get a spare as I only have one.

hello and welcome to the site. spare fob will take programing with tech2 so its a dealer jop or good independant but fobs can be got cheap off ebay, the problem is probably a duff locking solenoid but im no expert so hopefully someone on here will be able to give better advise, also there are a few omegas on here being broken so have a look in the for sale section if you do need to buy

Can you clarify query - when using remote, it unlocks ok, but doesn't lock, when using key it all works?

If that is the case, check the contacts of the lock button on the fob.

Programming new fob to car is Tech1/2 (you are on the cutover period, but if its radio remote (not infra red) a Tech2 will do it).  Beware, many dealers and a few autolocksmiths won't program a fob you got from elsewhere.  You will also need your immobiliser pin code, which is on your carpass - if you don't have this, you have to go to dealer and pay a fortune for it (my dealer in MK charges £32 for carpass).

Yes thats right. It unlocks with button but does not re lock and it all works with the key. The red light comes on when I press the lock button as it does when I press the unlock button.

I dont have the keypass card so looks like it's going to cost me !

I'd check the contacts of the fob (even though led still comes on)

Checked out the remote and all seems fine, changed the battery in it too. Only thing I noticed is that when I keep my finger on the open button the LED comes on once and goes off but if I keep my finger on the lock button the LED flashes constantly.

Any help would be great if anyone has any experience with the same thing ? Failing that I will give Vauxhall a buz and ask them.

Cheers guys.

On unlock, mine flashes once then goes off.
On lock, it keeps flashing.  Just like yours.

If the doors can be locked by pushing down the drivers door pin or using the key, then that eliminates the door solenoids.

I can't confirm where the relay is that feeds the solenoids.  In fact, I don't think there is one.  They're fed off the control unit direct.

Either the fob's stopped working or the receiver and or control unit.  Start with the fob.

ok had a little think and it may be the motor on the drivers door solenoid if this is the master and the rest are slaves you could try putting 12v across the solenoid to see if the motor is working not sure of the meega setup but my old isuzu worked this way. the doors wont lock if it thinks the door is open

The LED should flash once on an unlock, and continuously on lock (this is to do with the total closure system).

Assuming the indicators do not flash with the lock command, I still say its the fob.

May be worth doing a resync, just in case.

What the devil is a resync when its at home ? Sorry for my lack of knowledge but I am not the most mechanicly minded of folk ! To be honest I'm generally stuffed without a Haynes Manual by my side but will have a go at most things with a little knowledge.

Iam going to get a new fob anyway so I have a spare and get it programmed.

Sorry, resync is explained in the car's guide.

Basically, get in car, switch ignition to II, press the button on the keyfob a few times until car doors lock then unlock to show it has resync'd.

This is because the fob uses a 'rolling code' which prevents people with radio scanners 'capturing' your code and using it to break in.

This is NOT a method for programming a new fob to car - that needs immobiliser pin (ie carpass) and a Tech 2.

If you are buying a fob from ebay - it has to be the correct type, Bosch or Megamos normally. Your type can be read from old fob, or failing that remove drivers kick panel and read type off ATWS ECU.

How could you possibly go wrong with the book of lies by your side  ;)

Ah right Isee now. Thanks for explaining that.

I thought everyone would be tucked up in bed by now. I was in bed and couldn't sleep so thought I would do a spot of surfing. The Mrs took the mick and asked if I was off to chat to my new friends on the forum ! They just don't get it sometimes do they  ;D ;D

I will have another bash with the locking problem in the morning if her indoors doesn't have me building in the garden.

Hmph!  Bed.  What's that?

I'm at work again.  Overtime tonight, so I don't mind too much.

Good luck tomorrow with whatever she decides you'll be doing!

I'd be very tempted to get the drivers door card off and get my meter in there. Make sure you are getting the signal up to the solenoid for closing. If you are and the plunger doesn't move then you've found the problem.

I had a similar problem on a meega whilst locking, the plungers would drop, then immediately pop back up. Could lock it manually, and it would remotely unlock ok. Changed drivers plunger, problem solved.  [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

In case you're interested, the plunger is the same as that fitted to a Calibra.  ;)
