Hi my 2001 2.2 Omega has developed a horrible rattling noise from what appears to be the exhaust...
I have been under it and nothing is loose or insecure...and the noise seems to be coming from the 'Cat' box.....
Would i be correct in assuming that the 'cat' is goosed...im thinking its started to break up inside and this is what is causing the rattle...although there is no change in the smell of the car(i.e no egg smell)
Also noticed tonight its making it a bit slugish when you give it a bit of Gas! especially under load..i.e going up a hill etc
Anyone tell me different or clarify my diagnosis!!???? ;D
Cheers

sounds like the innards of the cat are naffed. smack the front and back pipes into the car with a hammer or something and see if it rattles. done one of my cats over a speedhump not too long ago :-/

On the V6 there are quite a few heat shields that are quite likely to rattle - I'd expect the 2.2 to to fairly similar. There's one on top and below the exhaust manifold for example and the bolt holes on these rust through.
