Title: KNOCK SENSOR
Post by: STMO123 on 05 September 2006, 21:22:16
I will be having a go at changing knock sensor 1 at the weekend and was hoping someone could help me with the following:

1. Does the new sensor come with a lead attached to go to the connector on top of the wiring tray at the front of the engine?

2. Would it be worth me trying to clean the old sensor before buying a new one?

3. Will the EM light just go out after I change the sensor or will I need to reset the ECU by diconnecting the battery?

Thank you o wise ones.

Genuine part includes the plug.

Good idea to disconnect the battery in any case for safety and will clear any stored codes at the same time.

There is no point cleaning it it is usually the lead that causes the problem, i would suggest that you bypass it an test the sensor before buying one.

Can do with battery connected.  Usually lead rather than mic. Around £40 from dealer iirc.

The EML will be extinguished at end of this, but code will remain for a while...

Having read in previous threads I think the codes should clear itself after 20 good starts or something like that.
