What are these like to work on? Any special BMW tools required? I've offered to change a head gasket on one if it's do-able, but wondered if anyone would share any experience on these engines.
Mr Mc Burger? :)

Fuel pump timing is very tricky and is very lickely to screw up unless you have a proper pump timing gauge. There are no ways arround it i have fitted a million fuel pumps based on the indicating marks that would exist or sometimes i would scribe them but always the actual pump timing was out as much as 5 degrees which is fundamental for the engine performance.

Well, this is a big job. Cylinder head is twice the sixe of the V6 one obviously, so much heavier. Valve gear is also fairly heavy - more industrial like. Plus that timing chaing fun and games. I wouldn't be doing one in a hurry!
