Title: Drivers door problem
Post by: Nick on 14 September 2006, 13:47:19
Hi there everyone,

just a quick one, over the past week or so my wife has been complaining that the drivers door is getting hard to pull open or pull closed. i checked and the it was tight/dry on the door stay, so i put some grease on it think it would help but is still the same.

Any suggestions please she keeps going on and on

Cheers Nick

When opening the door is it clicking at all if so there is an easy fix the rubber bush and mounting plates may need replacing, I think there is a how 2 on here.

Also my door became hard to open and close due to the small wheels that the arm move on  falling apart and now I no longer have a door stay been like it for a while now, but I will eventually get a new one fitted.

the door stay seems to have two dips in it, but it seems to get stuck in these dips and is hard to pull out

Sounds like whats happened to mine where the wheels inside had fallen apart.

Might be worth removing to check.

Easy enough to do but its a case of removing the door card to remove the stay from the inside.

The little roller inside siezes up and corrodes.

Feed some good dollups of grease in (by putting it on the arm and opening and closing the door) and if you're lucky it will improve. You're trying to coat the roller and its pin.

My door must have about 10 litres of copper grease in there now ;D  Still the death click I'm afraid :(

I actually found that one of the rollers had split and so had moved causing the rod to jam when opening and closing.
