Title: seat removal front

Hi
can anyone tell me what size torx fitting is required to remove the front seats as they seem to be well tight and ive snapped one already

Woo hoo! my first post giving some help rather than always receiving it  ;D

I just checked my facelift Marc and it is a T40 torx bit that fits the seat runner to floor bolts. Hope this helps, Cheers jim

Yep T40....what year is it as you either need to disconnect the battery or fit some locking bits to stop the pre-tensioners going off.

I'm changing my interior this week, didn't know about the pre-tensioner, thanks for that could have been a little accident :)

its a 1996 pre-facelift i won some leather ones off e-bay and managed to strip everything out apart from the front seats as they seem to be well solid i realised about the pre-tensioners luckily mine have still got the licking clips if anyone needs any tips on taking the door cards out let me know as i spent most of saturday striping the inside out ---apart from the friggin front seats any thanks for the info guys il let you know when ive taken them out and fitted the leather with pics

I saw some seat bolts at Marks today, they are quite long and originally had 'dry' loctite applied to them. This can be a sod to get moving, sometimes helps to tighten the bolts fractionally before undoing.
Can you get to the underside of the bolts? (I have no idea where they go) if you can, and its somewhere you can heat with a blowlamp then heat softens this type of loctite.

No there is not much room for working in but ive got a little blow lamp i might just give it a burn but unfortunately the torx bit i was using sheared off in one bolt so--ive got to drill the bugger out but thats another job for the weekend

Is the end of the torx bit stuck in the bolt?

If so use a centre punch or similar to try to rotate the broken bit clockwise (tightening direction) with any luck it will lose its grip on the bolt and a magnet should lift out the broken bit.

I have found that the cheap torx sets are just that...cheap. The ones sold by Machine Mart seem better quality as are the Halfords Professional, go for ones that have integral 3/8 or 1/2 adaptors rather than the one_adaptor_lots_of_bits sets.

Its nearly Christmas, add a quality set to the list.
