Title: Headlamp Field / Vision Warning Xenon Lights
Post by: Nickthearmourer on 17 September 2006, 11:09:38
Headlamp Field / Vision Warning Xenon Lights.  I have an beautiful early 99 model 2.5 V6 Elite with Xenon headlights.  Unfortunately, after driving for 30 seconds the warning comes on.  Headlights work fine but the warning on the display shows there is a problem somewhere.  Can anyone help please?  Many thanks.  Regards.  Nickthearmourer.

Probably a problem with the light levelling system.

With HIDs there is a level 'switch' on the front passenger side wishbone.

Its a fixed rod connected to, what i assume is, a magnetic sensor.

As the wishbone goes up/ down it moves the rod and adjusts lights automatically.

1st thing to do is to check its pushed together if not the message comes up and the lights still work, but will be pointing down at the lowest setting.

Replacement block/ switch is £80 from Vxl and is only held on by 2 screws.

Its easier to see if the front wheel is removed.

I repaired mine with some clever use of zip ties.

But it did go through the mot with warning up!!

If it does say low/beam/fld/vision i think it's related to HID leveling

There are actualy two level sensors...

On the front passenger side wishbone and anotehr on the passenger side rear trailing arm (near the rear wheel).

The first step on these is to disconnect the ball joint type linkage, clean it and grease it, then move the sensor actuator arm through its full travel a few times and re-assemble (much easier than it sounds!).

This fixes the fault in 90% of cases.

Many thanks for all your advice, it is appreciated.  I am hoping to change the wishbones this weekend so I will try your advice.  Big thanks to Timbuk who put me on to you.  Nice Chap.  Eventually got both wishbones for £53 on tinternet, Vanbeek's were £45each.  Thanks again.  Nick
