high all my car got broken into last week the basxxxxx i havent used the car since then but i went out and the battery is dead and the car is deadlocked i cannot get in to open the bonnet to charge up the battery i tried turning the key but afraid i might break it can anyone suggest anything the car is omega 3 litre elite 1996

The door should open with the key, dont be too afraid, the keys are pretty tough.
-
The key will work, but be stiff.
Or open boot with key, and put a battery charger across boot light (get it round the right way!) to put small amount of charge in battery.
There is another way of getting in, but causes a little damage to trim - PM me if you want to do this...
-
high cant get in the boot if i could i could open the bonnet as i always leave the middle section of the seats undone cheers..
-
I had this with mine & managed to open the door, I was afraid I was going to break the key in the lock but did it in the end.

does the key turn in the boot lock? mine didn't and had seized through lack of use - a few squirts of WD40 and jiggling the key left to right freed it up ... worth a try?

Same thing happend with mine..but the key held and opened the door (though I was a little worried at first)...seems it works for most people..worth a go!

I thought facelifts didn't have the facility for inserting a key into the boot.

Sorry AA ...... it's the only way to get my post count up, as I don't usually have anything constructive to say.

Are you able expand on why you can't get in boot - is the lock jammed?
-
To be honest I wouldn't use a battery charger......they have a bit of a nasty non-smoothed output.
In the past I have used a battery and jump leads and just dobbed the positive onto the starter motor feed from under the engine bay.
-
I don't understand why you can't open the boot. :-/
When this happened on my 96 P Reg Elite, I opened the boot, forced down the back seat, and had a volunteer (my wife) climb through and open the bonnet. Jump leads on the battery, problem solved. ;)

OK Smartie, a charger with a bloody great capacitor....

I doubt the rectifier diodes in them would cope then.....

That's how I got into mine, once....

yup, thats the one!

from memory when I got into my old miggy (pre-facelift) in this way, I seem to remember that when turning the key in the driver's door lock you had to turn it to the rear of the car to get past the resistance - isn't that the way you normally turn it to lock the door? It then freed up at the end of travel, could then turn the key back to vertical and to the end of the travel clockwise to unlock.
then again that was a few months ago and I've not needed to do it since!
-
Just been out and tried my drivers door -just inserted key and turned clockwise no problems.

When battery OK, its easy to turn. When power is lost, you have no electrical assistance, and it is very stiff, esp if deadlocked...
