yeah he does, headlights and stuff are controlled by the cruise stalk. Don't you do any night driving TD?  ;)

Good luck Pride, if might work straight away. Its 50/50 wether it will need enabling.

Done it on my 2.2 and its really handy for those 50mph limits on the motorways and other bits....

Ok...high beam/low beam are controlled with the same stalk.....night driving Tunnie?.....nah...dont do that its always dark  ;D we all know how good the Omega headlights are if you dont have HID's  ;)

Hopefully it will work Pride without a needing a visit to dealer stealer  :)

An option i would like to have....but i dont think it was ever an option on facelifts (would have been a relatively simple option on FBW's) is a speed limiter.....for the 30mph/40mph speed limits

Mine are the filament type TD. I did the bulb upgrade on my old Rover, because the lights on that were........ well ..... got more light from a candle. Got the Xenon upgrade bulbs from Halfords, not as good as HID's (getting used to the jargon..eh?) and it improved the lights by a good 60%. Might keep it in mind for the future :exclamation

The Good News and the Bad News

After alot of ringing - new Indicator stalk arrived today 14:00 hrs :).

Had no problems with removing the covers or the old stalk. Just a couple of extra tips. Make sure that before you unscrew the steering column adjuster arm you open the fuse box cover, release the retaining strap and let it hang, then lower the steering column to its lowest point, then unscrew the adjuster. This makes refitting alot easier.
When new stalk has been fitted position the lower cover in place making sure the both sets of stalk gromets are in place in the slots and then screw in the steering column release stalk, this holds the bottom section in place while you fit the top piece. When aligned replace the 2 front screws first - a little gentle manouvering gets the whole cover set in place. Replace the 3 bottom screws, close the fuse box cover, adjust steering column to the required height. :) JOB DONE! :)

The bad news took it for a test run - Cruise did not work. Will have to visit my Vx dealer. Booked in for 08:00 on Thurs. Will let you all know the outcome. :'(

No I did ask - but the reply was "It depends on what else they find that might need doing" - I told them that I only wanted the Cruise Activating and anything else just to give me a report.

We will see - will keep you all posted -  :'(I have put the Bank Manager on standy :'(

I would get them to call you before doing, as they may charge up to anything...   ...only a level 3 authorised Tech2 (like mine :D) can enable cruise, so they've got you...

Thanks for the advice - but I will be there anyway, so I will make it clear what I want doing before they start, and will get a price beforehand.

Thanks again!

Sorry to hear that you have to get it enable.

I was dead jammy and managed to buy an indicator stalk with cruise buttons and the wiper stalk with computer buttons as a pair on Ebay for £8.00 plus £4.00 postage!!

Plugged it in and wahey..... it worked.

Don't mean to gloat - I think I was just lucky.

Fitting it was much easier than I had expected and I was also helped by some top tips via this excellent forum - thanks to all.

It seems odd that some cars come already enabled, whilst others are not - there's consistency for you!

Hope you get it working soon, it is an excellent feature which I have always made use of in other cars I have owned.

Cheers,

Dave.

I have a related poll running in general chat about having cruise pre-enabled....

This is definately a project for me over the winter. I take the car to France on holiday and now that I've seen on this forum what can be achieved, I definately want cruise control!!!!
My car is pre-facelift though so I'll have to gather up the bits needed, though I don't think it will need tech enabled.
Good luck with the stealer in the meantime!  [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

we have liftoff :D

Took it down to Vx - told me it would be ½ an hour. Came back and Tech still sat in my car. Sat in waiting room and offered Coffee,Tea etc (Free by the way).

Next time I looked Tech talking to the Service Manager - both looking puzzled. Asked receptionist if there was a problem - was told that the cruise was working but no indication was showing on the dash. I told her that there was no mention of an indication in the handbook. She went and spoke to them - then was told that the job was completed - Description of work carried out

"Re-configured ECU to allow Cruise Control to work, Cruise Control had no communication with Tech Machine due to missing part of ECU, put EMC on to re-configure Cruise Control Now works. Work done at customers request, no tell tale sigh on dash to show cruise working"

£42.30 + VAT -

Well all working great - bit confused as the mamager advised on a new display so it would show that it was working - daren't ask how much!!!!

Took her on a good ride - works like a dream - JOB WELL DONE!

Glad you got it working!! There is no indication on the dash that cruise is engaged, but then you would expect a dealer to know that :o

No indication shown on dash on Omega (unlike Vectra-C etc).

£42.50 + VAT  :o - I really need to put up my Tech2 prices ;)

Well done pal - glad you got sorted out. Been watching cruise some stalks on ebay, just to get an idea of prices, and they're going for silly money when you can get a new one for not much more. I need the other bits for under the bonnet as well, but can worry about that later.
Once again -congrats!

I'd been watching them on eBay for a while but they all seemed to have the cruise buttons on the wiper stalk and I've got the computer controls on that. Mines pre-facelift so I needed the module as well and when I saw a module and lighting stalk with buttons on at 30 quid I just had to bid and got it for £32.

I needed a new lighting stalk anyway :-)

It is an auto and I know about the brake switch, I don't expect it to have the 4 pin one but I'm trying to pluck up the courage to bend these old bones and have a look :-)

Thanks for the info, I meant to mention those in case jonny2112 wasn't aware of the possibility.

Ah yes but, 95% of this price is a Tech at the stealers scratching his head, looking for somewhere to plug things in and wondering which way up he should be holding it. Where as you Jamie!!! Need i say more ;)

just thought I'd add this little rider

Checked car out today - cleaned mess on carpet left by the technician. Have also discovered that he has broken/thrown away the retraining strap for the fuse box cover, so now it just drops all the way down. Rang Vx to complain, they spoke to the tech - he said it wasn't there in the first place - lying toad. Ah well - cruise working fine.

Thanks to all once again

Worrying.  They really should know if there's an indication or not.

And a bit pricey compared to the £5.00 I paid the freindly mechanic whom enabled mine during his lunch break!

Still, glad it's done.  I love mine.  Use it all the time, whether in town or blasting down the centre lane of a motorway at 55mph!
