Just discovered its well worth changing the pollen filters regularly. I thought the ventalation system wasn't working as it should so I changed the pollen filter WOW! what a difference. The blast of air from the mid level vents is enough to blow Paul Daniels wig onto the rear shelf There are two types of filter available a basic one and an activated charcoal one for cars that have a pollution control ventilation system

Nothing wrong with using carbon one in prefacelift, as does help prevent some of the pollution coming in. Can't really use prefacelift one in facelift though, as the pollution sensors will have it on constant recirc...
-
I know it's not much different in terms of price, but would the carbon one be worth having instead of the standard pre-facelift one?
-
I have tended to use the carbon ones lately, but mainly because the last batch I bought, the dealer cocked up and gave me the carbon ones (for non carbon TC prices :)).
It does appear to cut down a bit of the odours when sat in traffic, though not completely. At TC prices, they are £5 more expensive, not sure I would pay the extra myself...

Mines a carbon filter, book says 'Change every 2 years', would you recommend changing it every 12 months then?

It certainly wouldn't do it any harm. :-?

I struggle to get 2 years out of mine before its looking pretty blocked...

Thanks pal. I'll b doing the filters in the next week or so and I'll maybe stick to the standard one.

Yes - I do. A tenner and two minutes job...
And I got a spare one if you want it.

My local friendly Vx dealer kindly fitted the non-charcoal one to my facelift, during the following summer the aircon seemed ineffective, so I changed the pollen filter to the charcoal type (this is how I discovered I had the wrong type installed), the aircon worked fine since though I can't really prove that the pollen filter was to blame. But for me it’s only the charcoal type since.

That's the charcoal type.

Be aware that the last batch of prefacelift ones I got looked like the charcoal ones shown in MJ's piccies (except part no), but were just the non charcoal ones. Wouldn't surprise me if some dealers used this to play silly buggers...

How could you think such a thing.

Indeed - the old one I took off the car was also greyeesh in colour (not from dirt) and other than the P/N which showed it was not the chracoal one it looked very similar to the new one pictured above.
