Title: Renewing vacuum lines, etc.
Post by: theolodian on 24 September 2006, 18:25:54
During my cambelt change I found two split lines.  One is a 2" section of rubber vacuum line, nothing special.  The other is a 3-4" long rubber hose for the air injection, down by the a/c compressor.  I need to go back in and replace them.

Does anyone know the correct diameter lines to get?  Should I just get it from the VX dealer?  I also need to get a new hose clamp for the bottom of the MAF.  Easiest to get that from the dealer too?

Cheers,

Theo

No, still getting worse.  Tomorrow I'm going to be bedridden, then it should start getting better.  All down the back of my legs too.   :'(  It's purely sore muscles from holding my not-really-that-small body up while bent over for 8 hours.  My normal back problems are absent  :-?

Hope its ok tomorrow then ;) you must eat a lot of carrots being able to see for so long in the dark ;D Bit worried about next week with having 2 to do, hope we don't hit problems like you did or it will be daylight again before we finish, bet your glad you've done it though [smiley=thumbsup.gif] Bo Bo is picking his cambelt kit up on his way home from a weekend away. Mine will be here on Tuesday :o

I have one of those flashlights that you shake instead of having batteries.  Not like my arms needed that after all the wrench-ing  ::)  I wasn't completely in the dark, see the other thread for more about the shop I was using.

Cool, I pm'd Bo Bo about what tools I won't be bringing.  Are you getting water pumps and 4-5L of coolant each?  If you have the long intake with the throttle bodies in front of the cambelt cover, the you will almost certainly need new o-rings for the intake plenum, 10 quid for the bag of 6.  (part number is for the whole bag)

not a bad idea to take the plenum off anyway and clean that out along with the breathers using carb cleaner at the same time ... plus if you're getting a few bits from Vx it may be cheaper to join a club that's in the VBOA and you'll get trade club membership - which (as long as your local dealer recognises it) should save you more than  it'll cost to join the club, especially if you're buying bits for two cars!

Alternatively someone on here local to you who has a "proper" trade club card may be able to get the bits on your behalf?

Plenum to inlet manifold 'O' rings are p/n 9118135 (for the bag of 6)

Got my parts, didn't think about O rings though, so will hopefully get some later in the week

If it's hard for you to swing by the dealer I can pick them up.  1 set or 2?  Timbuk?
