Has anyone had any of the following done on their 3.0:
NGK Iridium Spark Plugs
Uprated 4 bar Fuel Pressure Regulator
Moddified OE Throttle Bodies
Cool Thermostat
Lightweight Alloy Bottom Pulleys
8.5mm Magnecor Leads
or anything else? I already have an induction kit fitted and planning on a pair of sports cats and full stainless cat back exhaust system.

NGK Iridium Spark Plugs - I suspect no benefit, its not running hotter or any major difference from standard
Uprated 4 bar Fuel Pressure Regulator - Might hep throttle response, engine will only adjust map to compensate based on lambda values
Moddified OE Throttle Bodies - I suspect zip benefit......
Cool Thermostat - And this is supposd to gain ?
Lightweight Alloy Bottom Pulleys - Might help it spin up faster....just get a steel one off a 2.6/3.2, much cheaper and probably the same weight
8.5mm Magnecor Leads - They are good but again probabaly zero gains.

Thanks for replying Mark, i just basically looked on the Courtney website and found stuff for the v6. If none of its worth doing then its a lot of money saved like.
I had an enlarged throttle body fitted to a 2.0 vec, it improved the acceleration but its alot more expensive on the v6.
The thermostat ive heard lowers the temp by 10 degrees.
Is there any better way to up the power? or do i have to cheat and get NOS?
Is that a supercharger i can hear? lol

keeping the engine in tip-top condition sometimes shows.....
manual conversion?
as mark said mtek chip?
also making sure the auto box is fully serviced too will ensure reliabillity and MAYBE extra oomph!

I belive you can get a supercharger upgrade, trouble is it's about £4k :'(

All these modifications will not do much in terms of power improvement. Especially the lightweight pulleys is an absolute joke. The thermostat helps prevent detonation and therefor the engine runs at optimum ignition timing also makes the engine run slightly cooler(8to10ish) than standard during motorway trips expecially. I'm not convinced that the throttle bodies are the bottleneck of the system and therefor i wouldn't reallly bother touching them.

Hmmm ok then thanks guys, ill spend the money on body mods then lol. A superchip could well be on the cards then, are these mapped specifically to each car or is it plug and play? also how much are they and what gains can be expected?

I have seen dyno torque and power back to back tests on a standard vectra v6 and the superchip was rubbish. The engine has the potential to self-optimise make sure you use a good fuel quality, i use v-power and if i compare it lets say with morrison's 95 ron i would say that it feels like an extra 30ps more.

Superchips is a chipping company. If MilTek is selling a 'superchip', then it is the same thing as they are getting it from Pooperchips, I mean Superchips ;)

I believe you mean Mtek - they pop up on here occasionally - and I believe Mark or Dave have one of the Mtek chips fitted to their car!
I seem to remember that the opinion is it gives more torque low-down and makes the engine feel more responsive ... but hopefully someone can tell me if my memory is serving me well :-/

Mtek have nothing to do with "Superchips" as they prefer to sell worthwhile upgrades! ;)
The chips they sell are from a specialist tuning company called Collins engienering.
They give an improvement to both the low down responsiveness (much quicker moving off!) and especially when you get above 5k rpm! :D
I had one fitted to my old elite and I was very impressed with it.
The slight improvement to fuel economy was good too!
In real world power terms you are talking maybe 10% improvement, remember this is a normally aspirated engine.
However it is the improvement to driveability that makes the difference.
For around £150, it is a no brainer of an upgrade and I will be doing it to mine soon enough (once I check I can!). :)

Ive had an Mtek chip fitted for just over a month, think it must give differing results.
Still 'evaluating' it but wouldnt say its made any noticeable differences.
But saying that i haven't been on 'a long run' with it so its little difficult to tell

30ps from using 98ron fuel over 95ron? or is that just an exageration feeling?
As Dave said, chips are not superchips ones, these are written by a proper tuning company who have been around ALONG time.
Currently we have the chips on offer, so they are cheaper than £150.
the spark plugs will do absolutely nothing to improve the car, unless you buy the correct plugs, and are replacing incorrect plugs, but then all you'd be doing would be recovering any loses.
Precious metal spark plugs really only mean that they have a longer service life and can run a closer gap, however the twin electrode vauxhall omega plugs do pretty much the same, as when one electrode wears, the spark will jump to the other.
I wouldnt see the spark leads as a performance upgrade - a preventative measure for failing spark leads or to replace failed spark leads.
the enlarged throttle bodies - we are testing some soon hopefully, and these will be alot cheaper than others i have seen advertised if these proove to work.

What info do you need from us to see if you have the chip for our car, the ECU p/n off of the case? Does it require 97/98 RON? Does the price include VAT? I take it you just send us the EPROM, or is it safer for us to send you ours so you can be absolutely sure you have the right chip?? (My laptop may have beaten me, but I think I can handle putting an EPROM in ::) )

I need the chip number and the ecu number.
currently offering them at £130 all inc.
I send you a new plug in chip - takes about 10 minutes to do.
you can run it on unleaded or super, it will perform better on super.

Hi Jim,
The chip is just a plug and play, and how do you mean exchange? Its a seperate chip, you remove the old one and keep it if you want to put it back in.
It doesnt matter which you fit first.
I have one in my auto, laidback in his auto, and it made a difference, so yes, id say it was worth it.
Its easy to fit as well.

I would say that the Mtech chip is the safest choice as it is offered in a good price and there are so many people that have tried it. Go for it.
