Friends 3.0 Elite.
Fired it up today, sounded lovely, so so quiet.
Just fired it up again, and after running it for 5 mins, an AWFUL tapping coming from I think under the Left hand (passenger) cam cover. Went away after a bit, so seems intermittent.
What is this – a cam follower? Would an engine flush and oil change help?
The noise really is nasty when it comes on.

I would be very careful on the engine flush dependant on the mileage.
Certainly short oil changes will help.
This is the one you are doing the cambelt (and water pump I presume) on?
When was the last change done?
-
It's done 140,000 miles - with NO service history and no cambelt history.
That's why I've talked him into letting me change the belt kit and service it NOW! lol
Immaculately clean car though

I would do water pump as well, as hinted at by LB66

Water pumps on order with the rest of the kit matey
I wouldn't cut that corner :)

Do some very regular oil changes (1 - 2k) and see if that quietens in down a bit.
I do oil on my MV6 every 4k...

I use polish on mine......

How about an additive that's supposed to quieten noisey lifters?

A cup or two of gear oil sometimes does the trick.

You can't be serious about Gear oil....
Rather you than me

I haven't tried it myself, but I am told that it collects in the followers and quiets them down. Of course, they also say that diesel works great as an engine flush but I haven't tried that either.

Hrmmm... gear oil is far too thick for the oil pump and bearings etc....
Would do more harm than good at a guess..
