Title: Resetting EML
Post by: mijfife on 06 October 2006, 21:49:50
Can anyone tell me if it's possible to reset the engine management light on the Simtec 56 ECU? Mine displays 4 digit (P?) codes during the paperclip test. The Topbuzz website says each code will be repeated 3 times before moving onto the next, mine only shows each code once before moving onto the next one. Topbuzz also says to clear the codes, turn ignition on and off 30 times with a 5 second pause between each time. I tried this and the codes were still there, am I doing something wrong?

Cheers Jim

First question. Is the EM light on when driving?

If yes, tell us what codes are being given.

If no, don't worry about it, they are old stored codes that will get wiped over a period of time...or can be cleared by TechII.

Hi Dave

This question is being asked coz of a prob in another thread...see here

http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1159986857;start=all

Yes the EML is on all time....but its unclear to me wether is coz of the engine transplant or old stored codes......i suggested reseting the EML to see which codes come back.

I dont know how to reset the EML other than using a cheapo TECH2 or the real thing.

Cheers

Stored codes will remain for 30ish clean starts......i.e. after the engine managemnt light has gone out.

If the engine management light is still on then there is still a valid fault.

Hi guys, here are the four codes that I'm flashing up with the paperclip.

               0130 (Oxygen Sensor?)
0505 (haven't got a clue?) will recheck this one (rechecked def 0505)
               0110 (Intake air sensor?)
               0100 (MAF Sensor?)
I tried resetting the eml by turning the ignition on and off 30 times as per the instructions on Topbuzz but nothing happenend.

As Taxi Drived says, I'm not sure which of these are new and which are pre engine replacement.
The EML is staying lit so I assume there is still a fault.

Cheers Jim

Just giving these codes some thought  :-/

I started the car once with the MAF and air temp sensors diconnected by mistake so that "should" account for those two. I've had a look at both and they look okay externally, both nice & clean with no damage. The LPG Lambda was missing for a while so I think that would rule out that one. That leaves 0505 which I can't find reference to on Topbuzz. The nearest is 0500 - Idle speed stepper motor/idle air regulator.

0505 is idle control system malfunction....

Check the wiring and check the valve is super clean to.......you should be able to start the engine with light throttle if the valve is sticking shut.
