Hi Guys,
The Omega that donated it's engine to my car is a CDX and I'm going back to the breakers tomorrow to raid the cruise control from it :) Can I remove the stalk behind the steering wheel without removing the steering wheel first? The Haynes manual mentions that it unclips and slides off but says to remove the wheel first, just wondered if there was a short cut??
Cheers Jim

Yep you can get the stalk off with out removing the steering wheel.
Spin the steering wheel round until you find 2 screws in the plastic cover....take these out and you can get the covers off. Switch just unclips iirc.
Oh and you might have to unscrew the steering wheel adjustment lever, if its got one.
HTH

That's great TD and thanks for the quick reply! Unfortunately, the breakers cut the cruise control cable when they took the engine out but at least I should get the other bits. I'm hoping it's got the self dipping mirror too :)

Just noticed yours is a 2.0, so wont be FBW......so you will need to rob some bits from the engine bay as well.....not sure which bits sorry....as mine is FBW so i didnt need them.
Im sure someone else will be able to let you know which bits you need :)

As well as stalk, you need actuator unit, bowden cable with E clip, a 4 pin brake switch and a clutch switch if manual.
-
Thanks The Boy, mine is a facelift auto, will I need the brake switch as well? (I'll probably nab it anyway, should fit in the tool box okay ;D)
Cheers Jim

Not sure tbh, I know the Drive-By-Wire ones have the correct brake switch (and clutch switch if manual), but not sure about non drive-by-wire facelifts...
Prefacelifts do need the replacement switches...

okay, I'll nab it anyway just to be sure :)

you will need the control box as well
I will in time have all the cables if that job is no rush you can have them foc....
selling the stalk and acutator on ebay - simply as the prices seem to be wild currently ::)

You wont be able to use a second hand brake switch I suspect as they are a one shot item......can use a small relay instead though.

Only around £11 new for brake switch, so probably not worth buggering around with relay etc... ...I have successfully reused them though, just fiddly to remove.

The Haynes manual say to remove "depress the switch locking tabs and remove it from the pedal bracket" I had a look last night to see if I needed the other switch (I do :() and I can only assume that Mr Haynes has eyes on the end of his fingers to be able to see those darned clips and depress them at the same time ;D

IIRC, you also have to move a rachet thingie in as well so you have the play to be able to pull switch out...

Been racking my brains, can't remember how the stalk comes off, but it is a doddle. Practice on your old one (nothing to lose if you break it) but you won't.
No need to remove wheel. It is easy to see with the cowl off.
::)

The stalk simply unclips by depressing plastic tab at top and bottom of stalk, and it slides out...
-
Yep, the stalk came off no bother, simply by depressing the two clips. Why Mr Haynes has you remove the steering wheel is anyones guess!
Thanks for the offer of the cable Markiec, I'm hoping to get the Cruise up and running fairly soon, but it'll depend on how everything else goes. Let me know when it's available :)

My indicator stalk arrived yesterday from Lea Valley so i changed it over this afternoon, only to find that the stalk they sent me was faulty and the full beam would not work. (Ok on flashing, but would not work at all when trying to put on permanently)
