Title: Radio display and C/C lighting
Post by: MV6Matt on 09 October 2006, 17:47:41
Hello folks 2 things I want to check:
My 98 Omega has the CCR 600 radio (Philips) and over the last year whenever I put the detachable section into the radio (I always remove it when parked up) and turn on it says 'PANEL'
This is ususlly remidied by trying one or twice more and/or blowing sharply on the back of said detachable panel. It then works fine.
My queston is:
Is this a common problem that is related to the age of car and radio? (ie poor contact) or
Is it doing it because I keep removing it from car so much?

The climate pixels on drivers side have gone very dim - passenger fine. You can still see the pixels but they have faded.
Any ideas?
Matthew

The climate pixels are dim because the bulb that illuminates them has gone and needs replacing it will be ok then. Dunno about the stereo though

Clean the radio contacts, I use surgical spirits and cotton buds for that sort of thing. But I never remove mine anyway - seperate display, and fact its not a great stereo means it should stay put.

The CC prob is blown bulb as stated. Replace all 5, as you will blow others when changing. Easy enough job - do a search here for removing centre console ;)

Reason I use surgical spirits is it leaves no residue like other substances....  ...and coz I had a load (use it on PCBs)

True, normally on PCBs use one of those tiny soft wire brush thingies first.

On my mobile, I just use the spirits on the popport connector when it refuses to connect to carkit.  (Whats that I hear, "should have bought an Ericsson"?)

I use a fibreglass cleaning pencil and then a wipe with isoclene on electrical contacts, usually works a treat.

Beat me to it.  ;)

Fibreglass stick, use 'em in work for contact cleaning. Come up like new every time.

Tsk. I would never indulge in such dishonest behaviour.  ::)
