Strange locking/unlocking issues are normally result of knackered microswitches in DRIVERS door.

When my main battery was knackered a couple of years back I had a couple of incidents of getting back to car to find it unlocked, and I was sure I locked it (though you do doubt yourself). Not sure if thats relevent or not...

I had a car (i think it was a mondeo?) that did that and it was because one of the door catches was sticky so the door wasn't registering as shut and the locking wouldn't work.

Could be the same thing?

Check that all the lock buttons are going fully down, if one isnt getting to the fully locked position then the controller will unlock the doors again (as if an occupant had pulled one of the buttons up)
You can manually lock each door in turn then lock the rest on the remote to work out which one is causing the problem.
Could be a sticky mechanism due to old grease / rust or a knackered motor.
