Post by: Tony W on 17 October 2006, 23:56:26
Hi all I have had a few quotes on changing the cam belt on my gls 2.0 ltr v reg and the cheapest was £110 + vat for the kit, fitted does seem a fair price ( it is from a garage )

Thanks Tony w

Seems ok to me but I'm new to this site. Probably best to ask in the General Help section.

Welcome to the forum m8

Hello & welcome  :)
Can't help with the price, but I'm sure someone will be along to let you know or do it yourself.

Kit is about £70 plus VAT so £40 to fit seems good.

I agree, looked about the forum and that is a good price to save your knuckles and time. A 2.2 seems more expensive in a lot of cases than any other engine  :o

That is not a bad price for the 2.0, but it is also a whole lot easier than the V6.

This is critical though.

When changing the cambelt on the 2.0 have the water pump replaced at the same time!

The water pump is driven off the cambelt on the 2.0, so if it fails..... :'(

Have to agree sounds a good price  :y I did mine myself so saved on the labour costs.

Are they looking to change just the belt or will it be a full kit fitted inc tensioner and pulley wheels?

Definately recommend the waterpump change.

Somethings not right.......

It must be

The cambelt
The tensioner
The two idle rollers

plus the water pump or its not worth bothering........

I suspect its cambelt only.

It takes about 1hr15mins to do a 2.0/2.2

Be careful Tony, when I bought my omega there was a receipt for a cambelt change, £110. Turns out they did the belt and nothing else, a useless waste of money!
