Well i thought i had a while to go on my MOT, turns out it expired 2 weeks ago! :o :o
So hot footed it down to an MOT testing station...
Was very nevous watching them go around it on the TV provided in the waiting room, all was well until they tested the hand brake.
I had a feeling it would fail on that, the exact details are:
"Offside rear parking brake recording little or no effort"
I can feel the passenger side hand brake bite, the drivers side one used to but now it does't seam to at-all :(

Any ideas on the problem? I hope its not the cable as i know thats a b!tch of a job, as i said the passenger side holds fine, i tryed holding the hand brake up slightly when it was rolling forward to try and clean it no joy.
Just about to have a read of the Haynes manaul, but any thoughts for fixing it?

Simple...service the rear brakes as per my maintenance guide.
Check also the cables which, contrary to popular belief, are not hard to change.

Following your restoration projects, I think your well upto it now......you could try just adjusting the failing brake first to get it through the MOT but.....check te cable is moving ok and that the cable return spring is in place on the back of the brake back plate

Cheers, i am at Uni at the moment, but going home tonight to do it this week. As i have no tools here.
Just read your top guide :) - Taking it to bits seams fairly straight forward, few areas i am not sure on but will post up if i get stuck! :)

Yep....first and quick and easy thing to check is that the cable is moving (you dont even need to remvoe the wheel for this, just get somebody to apply and release the handbrake).
Then, if you do the service, spray the heatshield bolts with penetrating fluid and leave for a while.....

I have a feeling the heatsheild bolts will be rusted away :'(
Thinking about it, if they have i don't have an angle grinder to get them off :(

If the return springs have gone you may need to pull the lever back to bring the pads in to get the disk off. They will have gouged out the inside of the drum and it won't come off until the pads are retracted.

Reminds me tho my MOT is due in a months time.....and coz mines auto and im a lazy git i never put my handbrake on :-[ I dont know if it even works......be interesting to see if it passes with a year of not being used ::)
Im sure you can sort the handbrake prob out :y
