Please help me,
The heater valve went on the elite. so i removed the pelumn chamber to gain some access space and put in a new valve.
When i replaced everything, started the car and the engine management light came on and did not go off.
So now the car is very sluggish and is not running right. I have checked all connections and pipes and everything is in the right place.
So what is wrong please tell me asap as i cannot find the fault.
Cheers Nick

Do paperclip test to see what ECU thinks is wrong (eg, rear multiram not plugged back in...)

what do you mean paperclip test

12 is start of sequence, and is repeated 3 times...
Is 12 all you got, nothing following the 12?
(so, for example, if there were 19 and 24 codes stored, you should see:
12 12 12 19 19 19 24 24 24 12 12 12 19 19 19 24 24 24 and so on...
-
Right then.
I seem to have 12.
the 1 flash, then 4 flashes than a pause the 5 flashes.
then 17.
why the pause inbetween the 4 and 5 flashes and if you add them uo that makes 19, why 19 before 17.
Thankyou for all you help by the way

Other than plenum removal and the associated connection to the rear multiram valve at the back of the plenum, did you touch any other connectors, I am particulalry thinking about the one at the front right of the engine near where the main loom goes to the ECU box.
There should be a connector on a flying lead around this area for the knock sensor.....check it and the associated wiring is ok and not trapped anywhere....(under plenum for example.)

OK, so you have
145 - Wrong immobiliser signal
17 - Knock Sensor 2
I wouldn't worry about immobiliser for a mo, I'd concentrate on knock sensor. It would run OK, but significantly down on power is knock sensor fault.
Check the connectors for knock sensors (can't remember which one knock sensor 2 is - think its passenger side).
Drivers side knock sensor plugs into loom via RGE bracket.
Passenger side knock sensor plugs in on plastic cable tray running over passenger side bank of cylinders.

Did you check cables as suggested by Marks_DTM above?
-
Sorry, thought I was helping......by describing the wiring for knock sensor 2....
-
Hi there i have checked all connections and they all seem fine. When i first ran the car i had no ECU light etc but after 5 minutes of running it would come on.
I am having a long run in it tomorrow and cannot drive it the way that it is.

The 17 is knock sensor 2 (passenger side).
If is very rare for the actual sensor to fail, more likely the wiring to it. Its fairly common for the wire to be trapped under cam cover, causing it to fail some time later.
Just check the wiring - it comes up near dipstick tube, and plugs into the cable tray above passenger bank of cylinders. As said its common for the wire to be caught somewhere along its length between where it comes up by dipstick tube and its connector.
Hope that helps...

Well done on getting it sorted :y, but what was the cause?

Thankyou everyone,
Right, when vauxhall replced the engine for some strange reason they cut the knock sensor 2 wire and soldered in a new length that runs roud the front of the engine etc etc.
The solder had broken off but you could not see the break.
Since repairing it the car seems alot better than previous and seem to run smoother, better get up and go etc.
Thankyou all again for all yout help (The Boy) i could not have done it without you
