Title: Dirty Windscreen

Just refilled my washer bottle with top quality Halfords screen wash & now it's struggling to squirt all the way as if it's only running on 25% power.

All 4 jets are clean and initial quick squirt is ok & no obvious leaks found.

I've drained the system & refilled but still not enough pressure.

Any ideas?

Check power feed/earth to pump?

I had this some time ago for a couple of weeks & then all of a sudden it was fine, suspect a blockage somewhere

You tend to get algae or slime in the tank and pipes when using cheap screenwash or Fairy, it could be that some of this is blocking the pipes or jets but is too big to be forced out.
You could try disconnecting the pipes from the jets and running the pump to flush out any muck.

Also pop out the motor from the bottle and clean the rubber filter as it clogs up when the mixture is too rich (apparently). Solved the problem for me.

ditto - did this job this weekend!

you 'can' get to it by just removing the grill, altho quite fidly job to do!

I did it the hard way...  and was bored...

Facelift is easy, no bodywork to remove, just pop out the pump easy :)

This type of blockage is really common. Where the pump fits into the washer bottle there is a filter. It's like a rubber tea strainer (top hat shaped) that fits over the washer pump. The filter also forms the seal for the pump to washer bottle.

The filter gets clogged with slime.

On a facelift I can clean mine in about 20 seconds now.

Bonnet up
Locate pump in washer bottle (roughly in the middle)
Pull pump vertically upwards to slide it out of it's recess and out of the washer bottle
Get finger ready to plug hole (if you don't you'll loose 6 litres of washer fluid)
Wipe slime off filter with one hand (bit fiddly, wiping on a sponge works well)
Push pump (and filter) back in

Done

Thanks guys - especially Jason who's step by step guide was spot on.

I've removed the slime & now have to reset jets cos as an extra bonus it now cleans the rear screen too - if only it has a wiper blade of it's own.

How to clean gauze/filter is in Tech Guides section.  You do not need to remove bumper to do it.
