Title: Had a prang, may need suspension help
Post by: Agemo on 02 November 2006, 23:39:28
Right, failed to negotiate a bend, flattened a sign, flew over a ditch, made a door in a hedgerow, then landed in a field. Front end is do-able, rear is a bit of a mystery, the back wheels are well out of camber, and I mean off the scale, I need to find out what is bent/broken/twisted or whatever. I have had a good look under the car, but nothing is obvious, think I will nip to the scrappy to compare. Anyone here got any ideas of what would "give" to take the impact??? All replies welcome, even the micky taking ones - well, it was my fault.

The rear trailing arms have a set of tie rods (adjustable) coming from near the diff.....are they bent or broken.....

Thanks Gwilym, I got away scott free luckily. As for the tie rods Mark, they seem perfectly straight, it's as if they have streched, must be something else.

Glad to hear you're OK, you mad fool ;)

I may be wrong, but I thought rear camber was non adjustable.

May be worth PM'ing wheelsinmotion as he knows suspension settings on the Omega....

It is adjustable apparently, although mine is way out, and I still have to find out the cause. could be that I have bent shafts or something.

Oh and didn't want to bother WIM, not being a customer and all that.

Sounds like the rear hub may be bent.....the tie rod adjsusts the camber by small amounts as the toe is changed......if it was me I might well be sourcing a trailing arm assembly.....

I assume its not the alloy that is bent.

Alloys are fine. I agree about the trailing arm ass'y, there is a decent Omega in my local scrappy so whatever I need is available. I just need the time off work to strip mine down & see what I require. Had I known about this & other damage, I would have bought another Omega, and ,made one good one from the two, I have plenty of good bits on mine & didn't want to scrap it. Suppose if I had known all the damage, it would have been better to get a good spec late model with a duff engine & slot mine in.
