So I have had a long hard week...looking to be asleep by now,
But, wifey meant to finish at 10pm and she is stuck at work, so i guess i am stuck here in the wee hours...
So how would YOU handle this...
Wifey is a kind of social worker and works in a residential unit for 12 - 16 year old "boys" who are all there for being naughty...
2 of them have barrickaded themselves into swimming pool / room ( yes swimming pool >:()
And she wont be in till the situation is resolved - last time was 3am.
So answers on a postcard as to how you would end this....then i will reveal their method.
-
Does it involve asking them nicely and giving them anything they want?
-
Sarin would be fairly effective I would say. ::)
-
Pump in excessive amounts of Chlorine..That will get them out..with tears in their eyes.. :y
-
well personally i wouldnt have it happening on two reasons -
1 they shouldnt have a pool and
2 if its happened previously then they should be banned.
After that dim the lights, cut the heating, blast in classical music, lock them in, drain the pool and phone a chinese... ;D
-
Drain the pool and switch the lights and heating off....

Captain your quite correct, ask them nicely and wait, and wait, and wait....
then tomorrow the little darlings will be allowed to sleep till anytime they like and get anything they want so as to ensure they dont become volitile >:( >:( >:( >:(
-
And the lesson is... make a bloody nuisance of yourself and you get your own way?
Don't you just love these bleeding heart liberal types. >:(

Aye - SWMBO is very very angry as she is schedualed to be back in tomorrow too...
Ironically she is making a fortune as well due to the enchanced overtime rate she gets paid...but guess who pays it....
Yep Mr and Mrs Taxpayer >:(

Well being in charge of two pools i would send everyone else out and treat the little darlings to a pool all to there selfs, then fill it with hypo and watch the buggers suffer ;D However in this political correct world in which we live maybe we should give them some new hoodies and take them out for a good knees up. There aint a smiley that sums up how i feel about this >:(

Given that nobody here knows the history of the boys concerned, or the experiences/lives they may have led that have pushed them "off" the rails - I don't feel we are really in a position to judge or comment.

A good point, well made James, but I feel the problem is that people are always very quick to blame bad behaviour on some outside influence and to talk about outside influences having an effect on behaviour.
If you teach a baby that you will give them a treat each time they cry then they will cry often. If you teach an older infant that each time they misbehave they will be lavished with positive attention then they will misbehave often. By the time they reach teenage years they don't have the concept of disciplined behaviour. If you then reinforce that ill discipline by continuing not to confront bad behaviour in a robust manner then, I'm afraid, you will continue to get bad behaviour whenever they want to be noticed.
On the other hand, if bad behaviour is punished and dealt with vigorously then you have a chance of gradually changing that behaviour.
Only my opinion but I have fostered around 15 - 20 teenagers over the past 8 years. Most of them with 'challenging' behaviour. What most of them, and it is important not to stereotype, need and crave are clearly defined ground rules and consequences for poor behaviour along positive consequences for good behaviour.

I do James. In great detail. SWMBOS job is one of those that the partners live with.
I am also the one that is awaiting my wife to return home 4 hours after shift end - with the previous incident last time resulting in a female having her nose broke.
Not a go at you - not at all, just pointing out there is no excuse and the back ground - remembering its social work she is in, is very detailed. These are not "clients" from broken homes, beaten to a pulp and so on... these are guys too young to go to jail but boast about how there going to get there when they are old enough. These guys are persistant repeat offenders, one previous had 78 ASBOS!
Understand your poit fully - and its a very intelligent point - but I am with good reason wondering if i will get the v6 coming up the drive or a call saying she is in hospital. Its happened before on several times.
Golfbuddy`s point above is equally intelligent and well made - in fact an intelligance - or to me " management style" that is sadly lacking in this particular institution. My wife being first to acknowledge this - but then again she simply follows orders ::)

They need boot camp.......drum some respect into them.
No matter what there past, you need to start by opening thier eyes!
-
...well she got in about 3am from yesterdays bacck shift and has left at 7am for todays early shift :o
-
As others said, a stint in the services where the sgt will not wipe their arses for them, and not namby pamby 'do what you want Johnny' crap >:(

Reality is you don't... ...I used to frequently be in work for 25 - 30hrs non stop. Hence I gave up callout (so many callouts, you frequently didn't even leave the building before the first).

You can't sign away an employer's legal responsibility in a works contract, well you can but it's legally invalid. If you mean that Mrs Markie has opted out of the Working Time Regulations, then she can also opt back in by giving notice in writing to her employers.

This is where I think the best answer is a union, I am not a big fan on unions but when it comes to staff abuse like this they are perfect for the job.
I hope she is allowed this - also how about the papers
TBH I would have called in sick!

anyone mentioned dropping into the pool about 500 piranahs? and when the lowlifes come out -boot camps/solitary and chain gangs instead of "be good sweetners".
but ultimetly the parents are too busy with their sky tv, stella and ounce of hash nowadays, that seems to be a root of some problem kids.........
-
things seem to be quieter today - but think she needs trating to take away when she comes in tonght....assuming she gets away at 10pm!!!!!!
