Title: Throttle and Breathers Cleaned
Post by: Golfbuddy on 08 September 2007, 13:24:05
Well I've finally done it. Following my injection of enthusiasm last weekend at Newent, I took the plunge and cleaned the throttle body and breathers as per the excellent guide in the maintenance section. I broke the clip on the DBW plug :( but I don't think it will make any difference. There was a lot of crud inside the throttle body but it came up lovely with a bit of scrubbing and some poking with a cotton bud soaked in carb cleaner.

The difference was remarkable when I put it all back together. There was an initial cough and splutter when I fired up the engine but that soon settled down to a contented purr. When the engine got up to temperature the computer told me I was using 0.2 gals/hr instead of the usual 0.3 gal/hr and I'm sure the engine is more responsive and runs a little smoother.

So, huge thanks to Barry aka AutoAddict for the guide and giving me the confidence to do this job myself. I feel on top of the world as it all went back together and started first time. Now to treat the car to a nice bubble bath and some polish.

 :) :) :)

Edit: By the way, Carb cleaner stings when it splashes in your eyes  :'(

That's the plan. Bit scared though so I will take advantage of the next cam belt party for moral and technical support.  :)

John, could you email me the TC form you talked about in Newent please?

 ;D ;D ;D
Mrs EP came out of the house after hearing me swearing to find me stumbling around trying to find the back door. I had put the pipe of the carb cleaner down the small pipe of the Ecotec part and sprayed, unfortuately it was blocked which sent the carb cleaner backwards and into my eyes. I agree it stings like hell.

On mine it was really easy peasy. I thought it was going to be much more complicated than it was but before I knew where I was it was all off and ready for cleaning.

Give it a go.  :y

Are you having a senior moment? There isn't any water, except a drop when you take the water pipe off. You meant to post this question on the thread about the coolant flush didn't you? Now, go and sit down and take the weight off your brain. You must have got up too early this morning.  ;D
